    Default 2TG pistons in head # 88262 vs 88260

    Hi 2TG gurus,
I have been reading the threads on the 88262 head and the elliptical chamber design and have a question that no one has really answered in everything I have read.

Will the standard pistons work with the 262 head? or do I need to get the high dome versions.

I am aware that with standard pistons the compression will be a little lower but can see no other reason not to use the standard pistons I have?

Issue arrises from some rust in the bore of my engine which had been sitting a while when I got it. I have had the block bored out and have some 40 thou oversize standard pistons from another engine? So can I use those with the 262 head? or is that a world of bad?
    Cheers
    Nathan

No you can not use the standard pistons with the 262 head. With pistons at Top Dead Centre (TDC) there is about 6mm interference into the head. To test this simply raise Number 1 piston to TDC and drop your 262 head on top. Check for copious amounts of daylight visible between head and block as the head rests on the pistons.

The so called high dome version are a standard sized piston with extra thick crown, then bulk metal is milled off to form the dome.

    cheers Chuck.
