Default Opening up turbo exhaust housing

Well hello there people. Ive been giving some thought to the possibility of opening up the exhaust housing on my turbo.
Reasons being i feel the step between a .63 (which i have) and .82 (next size up single entry t3 flange) is a big step for a 2 litre 4 banger.

So How would one go getting a die grinder and opening up the inlet of the turbine housing in the smallest section?
Perhaps extrude hone too, but ive been told this can be uneven and perhaps not the best plan.

I dont want to clip the turbine wheel or anything, ony want to discuss the housing itself.

    Cheers.

I don't think a die grinder would be much different to the extrude hone in this instance? The long bit and hard cast iron make for a difficult combo to work. Despite my reservations on the dollar value of extrude honing, i think a mild port with this technique would be the go.

Ceramic coating will give you a little bit more flow potential as well as it helps keep the gas velocities up....in fact, get it coated regardless

Any idea of the cost of both?

tbh, i don't think you have a chance in hell of being able to die-grind it.. for the following reasons

    extrude hone.....
what you want is to increase the cros-sectional area of the tube behind the slot that guides the exhaust at the turbine.
you don't want to change theat slot too much, and extrude honing will do that.. otherwise there is nowhere for it to extrude to...
is there no other way at all of getting an appropriate size housing?

as far as im aware the next single entry size up from a .63 is a .82 which is a fair step.

I guess i could borrow a .82 are they are reasonably common and see how it goes.

    Need a .82 4 bolt rear, gt3076/3037 rear housing

You could try one of those tidy looking Tial turbine housings? They flow very well and also boost response....means modding your manifold to take a V-band fitting though....and they aren't cheap

I got an exhaust housing ceramic coated in black at Competition Coatings here in Brisbane the other week. For the housing and the two brackets that the bolts go through cost $198 all up.

doing that will significantly change turbo position, meaning intake pipe, intercooler piping and exhaust change, much work.
