Default Blown HG 1GGTE need help!

I have blown the head gasket on my 1G GTE and there is a death rattle coming from the head now. I have decided to buy another second hand 1G GTE from Central Australian auto parts, but I have one problem. In the car atm I have a 2nd Gen engine wired up, The engine that I’m am buying is a 3rd gen. Will I be able to swap the engines around and only change the sensors from over form the 2nd gen to the 3rd gen so it wires up right im my engine bay?

If any one knows if this is correct, please let me know.
    Cheers for the help.

It's prob a bit late since you've already got another motor but why don't you just fix the one you had in there? I'm sure that the "death rattle" that you speak of is the motor pinging only because of the hg not any other problem. A hg should fix the death rattle afaik and save a little messing around.

I'm with LeeRoy. I had a BHG, but decided I didn't want to have the risk of it happening again, so I just fixed it properly.

it will work fine, and u probably wont need to change any of the sensors over, maby one or two. Depending on the sump arrangement of the motor u buy though u may need to change that over, and engine mounts may need to be moved, but its all possible and easy enough.

To run the Gen3 engine on the Gen2 ECU you'll have to:
-Change the injectors to the Gen2 ones.
-Change the ECU coolant temp sensor and cold start temp sensor to the Gen2 ones.
-Change the throttle body and TPS to the Gen2 ones.

Everything else should work. They were the things I had to change going from Gen2 to Gen3 ECU on the same engine.

    Cheers for all the input,
The reason why I’m swapping engines over is because I’ve given this one heaps, and one of the turbo’s has a sticky actuator. I wanted to change the engine in hope for a fresher set of turbo's and a less farked head. Besides that I haven’t got the money to fix the head ‘properly’ at this stage and I need my car back on the road ASAP.

JustCallMeFrank, did you swap a gen 2 with a gen 3 on a gen 2 ecu?
If you did, I’m happy to hear that its not to much of a pain in the arse if all I need to change is:

-Change the injectors to the Gen2 ones.
-Change the ECU coolant temp sensor and cold start temp sensor to the Gen2 ones.
-Change the throttle body and TPS to the Gen2 ones.

Once again, thanks for the help and if anyone has anymore information it would be highly appreciated.

    Cheers

Just use some Hylomar. A light coating on each surface.
