is it cranking over? or just nothing at all?
I've just finished a manual conversion on my gz20, i used a w58.
After installing it all I spliced the two wires necessary (neutral start inhibitor switch) so the ECU thinks the old auto trans is in neutral.
But still my car wont start, could it be a fuse that I burnt out in the process? if so, what?
I need help ASAP please!

Vash I followed your guide, my leads to the plugs were a differant colour, i got (black with blue trace, black with white trace and a thin red one)
I joined the two thick black ones, a few people have told me thats correct.
When I try and start my car I hear the idle sensor thing's? motor cut in. (the thing on the plenum that adjusts how much air is in there, to vary the idle)
also other little tell tails, like a click that comes from behind my glove box when i turn the key to start.
But still no crank, im out of ideas, please help me!
the most likely thing is something to do with the wiring you have just modded for the manual box.
failing that, flat battery? dead starter motor?

The only wiring I've done is splice the two thicker wires, I left to reverse light one alone for now.
There is still a plug hanging loose from the w58 i think its the sender for reverse gear. It's two black leads that go into a white round plug. I wouldn't have thought that needs to be completed to start the car, just for the reverse lights to work.
All this being said, when you take the auto shifter out, you have to remove three plugs, do you have to do anything with these wires?
It's the same starter motor i was using before, so I know it's not dead.
Battery definitely is dead, I took it out a car I've been driving all day.
does this help at all?

you need to identify which wires run through the neutral switch and go from there.

"Now there should be 2 plugs on the W58 one for the Speedo and one for the reverse light, There will be a 4 prong round white plug you need to join the white and blue to bypass the neutral starter switch and attach the black to the reverse light switch (still having problems with getting the reverse light to work will update when figured out)"

or was that the guide you read already?

I spent twenty minutes looking at that, didnt help![]()
Yes thats the guide i read, I've done what it says but my car still wont crank![]()
see if theres power getting to the starter solenoid? probe it with test light etc.
if there isnt work back to find the prob.
wheres the switch? inside the old auto or part of the shifter?

Does the startor motor throw out, or make any noise? What happens when you turn the key?

CelicaSupra7m - the switch is in the old auto, ive cut it next to the firewall and thats where im working.
I will be checking the solenoid for power today.
1gjet - starter motor makes no sound from what i can hear in the cabin, everything lights up (dash etc) and a familiar clicking sound from a little black thing called "circuit open" down behind the passengers kick panel.
The injectors make a sound to, i guess they're squirting, prepping the pots to fire. Nothing else happens![]()
run a wire from the starter soleniod to near the battery...
put car in neutral
turn key to on
stab positive terminal with the solenoid wire...
if it starts then you could just wire up a new starter switch...
under the dash near the ecu there should be a square plug with a thick black/blue or black/white or black wire... test it to see when you turn the key to crank it gets 12v
once you have that wire
get a relay
connect that wire to pin 86
ground pin 85
run pin 30 to the battery via a fuse
run pin 87 to the starter solenoid...
should get it running
if you can mate, take the gear selector switch off the side of the old auto box (this should have 3 plugs coming from it that connects to the plug your bypassing). wire those 2 thick wire back to there original spots and connect the gear selector switch off the auto box.
then turn the knob on the side of the gear selector whilst your car ignition is in the on position and look on your dash to make sure its in DRIVE then see if it starts. im guessing yours must be a different generation to mine hence why you have different color wiring.
ill see if i can get some pics up from my spare auto so you know what your taking off it.
