On the upside, you can be fairly confident of the design of the hardware/electronics. It does help by reducing areas of concern to sensor hookup and software configuration of the ECU.
Package turned up today
Ive just finished building the JimStim.
Damn they make these things so easy to build! The very well made tinned PCBs, components in packets, instructions, etc makes it so simple.
Kinda takes some of the fun challenge out of it, and makes it quite boring![]()

Yeah thats true.
I dont think ill be able to simulate the Caldina/5SFE trigger wheel and cam wheel with the JimStim
Itll still be useful for verifying everything works on the MS3 though.

as long as some of the combined triggers work, then the others should also.. ish..
to make it harder to assemble, you could jumble all the resistors up?

and then break your multimeter so you have to read the resistor colour codes??
...... butt scratcher?!
I just read JimStim can simulate any wheel pattern if you get the appropriate cable to program it.
It can also simulate VR for both crank and cam.
Awesome, ill be able to do proper testing with it![]()

the USB cable? can you just make one up, or are the "details" of the wiring not public?

Im not sure, i havent looked yet.
I now have the MS3 & MS3X all built, in the box & working.
Im having some trouble getting it to read the stim's VR output though. JimStim docs says in VR mode it does a 0V xover, but my DSO says its not
[edit]
The JimStim USB cable is a USB -> RS232 at 3.3V logic converter.
Luckily i think i have something already that might do the job![]()

It all works
I DIY'ed a MS3X stim/status board too.

That it is
Well there are 8 injectors, 8 ignitors and 6 GPIO's to monitor.

Been a bit quiet over here lately.. I have no real news to report from the MS side of things, though I can safely say I'm more than impressed with my MS!! It's been wonderful so far. Still got a few bits and bobs to fine tune, like when it's really cold out, I kick it over and it starts first go but then stalls. Instantly start it again and it idles up fine. Guessing it's a lack of fuel in the cold-start. It's been super reliable otherwise!
Found a vacuum leak which explains not being able to get the idle down past about 1000rpm - fixed now
On the engineering front, the MS has been given the green light - just waiting on some RA60 rims to pop up so I can get the paperwork completed by my engineer and the it's time for registration
Anyone have any updates?

Can't believe I haven't seen this thread before!! I recently sold my MS2 to enable me to purchase a V3.0 MS3 with MS3XI will be controlling 4 injector outputs, 4 ignition outputs, boost, and IACV. There is obviously a handful of other stuff to be controlled, but that is general purpose stuff. I am currently trying to find a set of Coil On Plug units which would be suitable for use in the 18R-GTE. For triggering I have sold my old locked dizzy with 22RE VR sensor, and have mounted a 24-1 tooth wheel on the crank pulley. I will also butcher an old dizzy to install a 1 tooth cam angle trigger with optical sensor (about $5 from Hong Kong for the optical sensor). This will allow full sequential fuel and spark
. I am also looking at what options I have for adding a knock sensor. Anyone found a good spot in an 18R-G block to install one? I don't think there are any bosses which are away from timing components in which one can be installed

Picked up a DIYPNP and have found a little time to assemble it
Just in the wiring up phase right now to get it ready for testing this weekend.
