So how vital is it to have a stim testing board when building up a MS ?
Im trying to come up with my DIY Autotune shopping list, and wondering if i need it.
So far in the cart is:
1 x MegaSquirt Wiring Bundle - 12' Long
1 x MegaSquirt 3X Wiring Bundle - 12' long
2 x Metal DB37 Cover with Hardware & Gaskets
1 x MegaSquirt-III MS3X Expansion Card
1 x MegaSquirt-III w/PCB V3.0 - UnAssembled Kit with black case
Im also considering adding a big box of the weatherproof connectors.
Anything else i should be adding?

a stim is realyl helpful.
the basic stim used for MS1 is realyl simple and i can send you diagrams... I used to make "stew stims"
the next gen stims, i think can do different tach pulses (Jistim V1.5 has wheel simulator), but if you are not using a wheel of one of those kinds, then it's not much help.
http://www.jbperf.com/JimStim/index.html
but really, the basic inputs for sensors don't change, except for the tach/wheel inputs, but i'm not sure they act as VR inputs? or like Hall inputs?
the outputs do change, but it is realyl easy to add LED's for each output anyway.. and you'd probably want to add custom LED's depending on your application and output pins, esp with MS3
i'd like to see a breakout board used in conjunction, or incorporated with the stim, so you can substitute in your real sensors/inputs or outputs to test they work (and for injector cleaning etc)
so yeah, if you are nto worried abotu testign input for tach, or will test using a real dizzy and drill, then i reckon you can brew your own stim.
the weatherpack connectors are really good, and cheap! even at $6 for 3x 2 pin or whatever, they are heaps cheaper than the ones available locally, liek from jaycar etc ($6 per half?).
i only got some 2 and 4 pin connectors, but for a new install, i'd get a box, and a bulkhead connectors or two, then work out if i needed any extras
edit: stim is really helpful or diagnosing stuff off the car, and for pre-tuning etc... and for showing people
edit2: i also have some DB37 PCB conectors and the like, if you want to make your own stim, and might even have a gen1 stim kit still...

you can borrow my MS1 stim i you want - but if you are wiring the board up for dual trigger input and want to send test signals without wiring up your CAS, then the Jimstim is the way to go or you simply have to trust your wiring
Would recommend it for 1st-time build as you can then be highly confident about the main board build.
I loaned by stim to a two guys when I first got it. Am happy to mail it to you if you post it back, and it includes power brick to drive it. Looks very rough (no case or trimmed-down stems on the pots, but it works.
If anyone's interested, I have a breakout board that I got of Megascott a few years back - is just a bare board so would need the 2 DB37 connectors and other bits.
Actually, i think i will add a JimStim to the list. Thanks for the offers though guys.
Odd are at some point later ill want to hack the firmware myself, so owning one will be very useful.

Quick update since Alex hasn't posted an update in here. A few weeks back we took the TA22 down to Sydney and did some road tuning on the way, and went here:
And came back with this:
Not only did we pass ADR27 (Emissions from 1976-1986) but we got the 3TGTE past ADR37. Which means that engine is legal in a car manufactured up until 1/1/1997. Not a bad effort I sayThe new live VE analysis in TunerStudio is AWESOME to say the least!

i doubt they'd call the ECU 'legal' if they knew you could plug a laptop into it
But fantastic effort it getting the ECU+engine to pass the ADR37 emissions standards!
Well done!
Amazing to see you got it approved 1st shot!
I just ordered:
1 x EBC Electronic Boost Control Solenoid Kit
1 x MegaSquirt Wiring Bundle - 12' Long
1 x MegaSquirt 3X Wiring Bundle - 12' long
1 x JimStim v1.5 MegaSquirt Stimulator w/ Wheel Simulator - Unassembled
2 x Metal DB37 Cover with Hardware & Gaskets
1 x MegaSquirt-III MS3X Expansion Card
1 x MegaSquirt-III w/PCB V3.0 - UnAssembled Kit with black case

woohoo! box waiting for me when i got home.
looks really nice, very long cable.. nice connectors and came with NTK sensor, so am happy about that
unfortunately my really old 12V powersupply can't handle the current, and the AFX gives a "batt" signal and resets during the warmup countdown... (ie, it drops down to 11V).. booklet says it draws up to 3amps during warmup...
will try on car battery later
