    Default Echo coils with 1JZ???

Need to sort out some replacement coils for my Supra as its suffering from some pretty bad ignition problems once things heat up a little. the quote for factory new 1JZ coils almost gave me a myocardial infacrtion so im going to give them a miss. Someone told me people have used coil packs from Toyota Echos (as they are plug-to-coil) and apparently quite cheap and reliable.

Has anyone done this with their 1JZ/2JZ? I am using an Autronic SM4 which only has 4 ignition outputs (fucking stupid!) and my factory ignitor is still being used also (if that means anything).

    cheers

    they work well.

I'm running them on my 2J with vipec ECU, have also run them on a 1J with adaptronic. Wilbo runs them on his 2J with adaptronic and MR1JZ runs them on his 1J with Link G4: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/sho...=grande&page=3

You will need to machine up a bracket to mount them, although the 1J with adaptronic used just a few tabs of bent steel for mounting.

If you've only got 4 ignition outputs then wire them up in waste spark, you dont need the stock ignitor with the ZZ coils.

One of the other guys up here used them on a 2J in an RX7 run by adaptronic which did 600hp, I haven't seen any engines running them with more than that power yet.

Setup your dwell table according to this:

Yeah they're not bad. I've seen ignition break down at 240whp on a 4AGTE, so.400whp on a 6 cyl is the limit. They hate cold plugs too, misfired terribly with them. Great for moderate worked/ stock setups, but definitely not anything to rave about if your chasing big numbers on the dyno. (LS1 coils are good for 1000hp on a 2J).

What dwell, plugs and gap were you running?

I've only put 20psi into my 2J so far using BKR7E-11's, no ignition break down.

The 600hp 2J was using a flat 3ms dwell but I'm not sure what plugs it had in.

Xoom's 2zz turbo put out 240kw atw on it's stock coils (same coil/power etc as the NZ coils)

Edit: Make sure you get the Japanese version of the COP's, they seem to be more reliable than the indonesian version (country is stamped on the side of the top section)

1.1 mm NGK iridum's, coppers, SR20 cold plugs (tried 4 different plugs that fit without improvement). Went to daewoo GM wasted spark coil pack with integrated igniters with custom leads and the motor made 300hp @ 20 PSI without drama's. Running 3.2ms dwell - maybe the coils were a bit had it.

1.1mm gap sounds abit big for 20psi? id be running at least 0.7mm for that sort of boost

We tried everything plug wise, wasn't the problem, changed gaps, etc etc. The coils just didn't have enough punch. Without any changes to the plugs, we fitted a chunky GM coil pack and it took as much boost as you could give it.

thanks for the feedback guys, i managed to source some 10,000km factory 1JZ coils for 400 bucks so ended up biting the bullet and going with them - no effing around making up a bracket and plug right in.

    cheers
