Default jza80 diff mounts into the diff cradle ???

having a peek under the car today and noticed that the rear diff cover has 2 separate threaded mount positions in the back. see pic:

now one of these mount positions is used to locate the back of the diff into the diff cradle/x-member via a large cicular rubber grommet/donut.

the other mount, however, has nothing bolted into it - but the diff cradle has a mighty big hole which lines up to the mount, and looks like it too would have a large rubber donut/grommet installed in it. its looks very odd having a threaded mount on the diff, anda large corrsponding hole on the cradle, but no harware inbetween...

can anyone confirm normal diff/cradle assembly? the car is a 95 NA manual. is perhaps the extra mounting designed for use with the TT's to help support the diff more??

    cheers

Maybe the mounts for the open / lsd diffs were different and toyota put the mounting points for both diffs on the same cradle?

Is your pic of the plate i've circled in this picture?

I haven't really had a close look at the diff, so i'm not really sure where you're looking. If you point me in the right direction i'll take a look under the car next time i'm up at the garage. This car has the factory lsd in it.

    fyi:

The NA cushion mount is made of a light duty rubber where the TT has two heavy duty rubbers. The NA rubber sells for $90 and the TT sells for about $140 each. I did mine a few months ago.

According to the workshop manual, the bolts are not be reused. For the sake of a few bucks get new bolts while you are at it.
