Default Widest light truck tire available?

Hi guys, got my new ute, and need some bigger boots.

In a hope to keep it legal, what is the widest light truck tire you can get?
I've seen MS-75 with his crown using 225 wide Simex tires, but what else is out there?

The original tire size on my car is 195R14C (80 series profile)

    Or,

Is there anyway of engeineering normal radial tires on a comercial viechle?

How wide are you talking? For looks, function, traction or what?

I would just ring a local dealer as the internet just gets your hopes up. I was looking at an American tyre site and had found the ones I wanted but they don’t sell them here and the shipping costs are way too much.

looks and traction mainly. Legalities would be the obvious big plus.

I just bought a Turbo Hilux, pumping out 300rwhp. And traction is a major issue.

my van was fitted with stock size light truck tyres, at 185/r14.

The widest i was told i could fit was 225's, at nearly three times the price.

that was on a 14" rim, and the 15's can take wider.

There are Street (non-light-truck) tyres that you can get legally, provided, when police stop you, your not using the vehicle for light truck duties.

Aslong as you keep the stock steelies, rated for higher loads, the tyre shop should be able to help you with the info to keep it all legal, just let them know what you have, and what you intend to do with it.

the widest you can fit is 15mm wider (yes thats all) from the widest tyre the manufacturer specified from that vehicle.

    Really!

QLD must be different to NSW.

The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter
wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel
and tyre combination specified for the vehicle.

lance: sweeet unfortunately if its not an SR5 you will have to run commercial tires for it to be anyway legal, unless you get it engineered - to lower the load carrying capacity of the ute..

what year is it? whats it running?

In NZ there is a 235 or 245-50/13.5 commercial tyre that comes with its own rim in Toyota 5 stud, cheap too at around NZ$90 each including rim. Commonly used on transport trailers, will see if I can find a brand name that you might be able to track down over in Oz.

Guys you need to double check your verifications.

As per the queensland road rules.

Rolling diameter cannot increase more then +15mm.
Tyre width can not be larger then 1.3 the widest optional tire.

    As taken from here
    http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/LTASinfo.nsf/ReferenceLookup/Modification_Jan05v2.pdf/$file/Modification_Jan05v2.pdf

So if i go by the 195R14C's that are on it at present, the widest i can go is 255. And then work out the rim and sidewall profile for the rest.

I think in my case i am going to try and get a mod plate for the tires, classify it as a passenger car or as a non load bearing ute.

As for details of car, check the members ride section. All the deatils are in tehre.

I'm running 225/50/16 on my Ute and have had on troubles with NSW RTA (even had inspectors go over the car and they said nothing) still have traction issues as there is no weight over rear end. But they are 10 times better then the stock ones.

sorry thats what i was told/
if you need it though i know a guy in bris who does lower gvm mod plates. so then you dont have to run load rated tyres.

AFAIK the tyres cant be 15mm wider than the rims they are fitted to.

so my 7" front rims, with 235's on them, are quite illegal.

yet i have had no such problems, even after having the police give the car a glance over when i went through an RBT station a couple of times.

I would think that the police would be more focused on that big dirty front mount hanging out the front, then the big ass turbo in the engine bay, before they go anywhere near your tyres

Thats utter BS eldar commodores come with 17/18x8 inch rims ie 203.2mm wide and have 235/45/17 or 245/35/18 fitted to them. So your telling me every factory holden is fitted with illegal tyres
    If in doubt power out
