So i'm looking at buying a AE82 Twincam Corolla for some cheap track duty's.
Most of the one's i've come across have rust around the fuel cap and where the rear guards meet the rear bar.
My question is where else should I be looking for rust in these and how hard is it to repair the fuel filler area and rear quarters? I'm looking at a car monday thats sounds very promising but the owner say's they have had the rust repaired around the fuel filler but it has come back just over a year later.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are pretty good for not rusting elsewhere generally, only maybe the roof drip rails slightly under the trims. Generally nothing structural.
They rust around the guards and fuel filler as under the c pillar trim has a vent behind it that can let some moisture in and then the rear panels have a foam stripping where they all meet, the foam stripping holds moisture in the bottom edges of the guards and where the fuel filler aperture meets the guard.
I cut my rust out I had in my two twincams, rust treated and replaced in steel, then fish oiled the inside of the rear guards, check my respray thread for some details, unfortunately I do expect it to reappear one day...5 years...10...who knows.
Good luck with the finding and purchase of a little track hack![]()
