Why not keep it all Toyota and fit a Lexus V8, maybe cheaper unless you had the Holden 5ltr layin around, the old 5ltrs are quite heavy and the turbo 350 box is large unit, is yours a 4x4 or 2wd? If the brakes are similar to the later RNseries then the Skyline 4spot calipers are fairly straight forward to fit with 300mm BA Falcon rotors, You can use 15inch falcon wheels as a cheap alternative to mags.

by the sounds of it he's already got the driveline, at a guess i'll say vk or vl commo with quadrajet carb and (as stated) trimatic auto trans
the good news with these motors is that the sump and pickup are interchangable with the earlier hq to wb v8's
moving the hump to the rear if needed.

Sorry dude got mixed up with some of the above mentioned threads, still old heavy cast iron engine, I'm a Holden man thru and thru but the old 5ltr wouldn't be my first choice, just my 2cents.

Whichever V8 you choose ya gonna have clearance issues in the exhaust department, you will also be gettin tight for spark plug changes too, don't know about the Holden V8 but you may have trouble with drivers side tappet cover on the brake booster aswell, Hilux's are shit for places to mount the ECU in the cabin area if you got A/C, don't think they are to similar to the later models chassis wise.

My 86 Hilux has a mildly tweaked 308 and a TH400...all seems to fit fine (i didn't do the conversion)....that driveline is up for sale if it's of any interest? You'd get the mounts and the modded sump, tailshaft B&M shifter etc??

ive done and helped with some holden v8 convertions into 4x4 hiluxs

there not the best fit but they fit in there, dizzy can be hard to get to being so close to the firewall, and radiator to motor clearance has been tight.

depends on were u sit the motor to what will be more of an issue, i cant remember what models the cabs were but some fitted better than others

id look at a lighter motor if it was me

but holden v8s are cheap as lol

loose the fuel pump and go electric, lower engine ,better .
concentrate on your tailshaft angles to avoid vibration
82 is a good year as the pollution and noise limits are more generous ( depending what state you live in
    good luck
