    Default ra23 diff?

hallo all. is there any kind of mods that can be done to improve a stock ra23 diff, or is it better to replace with a hilux or volvo diff?

    Hi,

Depends what your power expectations are, plus how you wish to drive it.

The stock diff is plenty strong and will last a long time, even with a more powerful engine, if you don't drop the clutch or do single spinner burn-outs.

If you are thinking of putting a couple of hundred rwkw or more to the back wheels then maybe a Volvo or Hilux diff upgrade is the best solution.

You can always try and get a T-series LSD into it, which is stronger than the stock non-LSD - but it's not going to be as strong as an F-series or G-series diff.

Pretty much the same effort to get both in there. Both require mounts swapped over and stud pattern changed to Celica pattern. One advantage the Volvo has is it already has disk brakes on it. Advantages of the Hilux are if you get the right one it is the same width as the Celica diff and it is marginally stronger then the Volvo diff. Hilux diff will give you Falcon stud pattern if you want it for finding wheels easier, but you will need to change the front hubs to match.
I have a Hilux diff that has already had the mounts swapped over and disk brakes set up PM me

Agreed that the Hilux diff is the go for a 1UZ. Also agree that the 5 stud will make finding wheels easier.

If you don't actually have a UZ, and are just dreaming there but want something a bit stronger, then Kaaz make LSDs for the T series. There are 2 types, the early and later AE86. It is the early version you want for the RA23 T series (as far as I can tell anyways, all info points to this being the case, and nobody has given a negative response to queries regarding it). I have seen a stock T series take 9 months of serious punishment behind a 1G-GTE prior to failure. This included single spinner burnouts with the speedo reading 110kph (read single wheel spinning at 220kph assuming the other was stationary).

    Hi,

I may have to contact this Kaaz mob and get a 4.1 LSD centre for Trini.

It will be stronger than the current stock unit and the girly gay-blade way I drive it will last a long time.

Rivsy, the centres don't come with ratios, you need to take the crownwheel off your existing centre and install it onto the new centre.

You may also need to shave a few mm off the ends of your axles. The Toyota LSDs require this, not sure about the Kaaz ones though.

i can definitely confirm my axles had to be shortened about 2 to 3 mm when i fitted the LSD to my G series diff

i also had to bring the taper back a bit as well.. about 15mm
