    Default Approval to Modify

OK think this is good as any section to post this as it has to do with conversions mainly...

Im in process of filling out my Application to Modify Light Vehicle form for my celica. Now ive gone and filled it out with all my plans, but ive come to the end of it and now wondering how much depth do i need to go into?

If anyone has a copy of there application (that got approved) and is willing to post it up so i can see how much detail they are exactly after.

    Cheers in advanced everyone

I am considering doing the above as well and all the information I was told after several phone calls to the RTA was give them as much information as possible.

Having said that, I too would be interested if someone has an application that was passed for us to look at?

Get an engineer to do it for you. Here in QLD I had mine done by DB Autotech.

As for 'detail' you need to put down everything you're changing... and if you're not changing it (eg. brakes staying stock) you should say why (eg. new engine is from a heavier vehicle with smaller brakes)

    Hi,

You have to fill in a form and send to the RTA if you want to mod your car?

Can't you just mod it and then get it engineered?

he's in WA - over there the theory is you: submit a proposal to modify the vehicle, they consider it (after first ignoring it for several weeks, burying it in paddock to compost then feeding it to the office dog), give it the tick of approval if it's fairly sensible, you do those mods, get it inspected, get rego (if required), then you do all the other stuff to the car that you know had no chance of being approved.

    +1 pretty much...

But for things like rear diff, do i state that ill be using a volvo 240 rear diff or do i state its a dana diff? and things like the front brakes im using hopper stoppers for the front, do i list that? or do i put its 290mm vented discs with 2 piston calipers?

Original plan was custom made coilovers but due to there not ADR and need seperate engineering approval im going probably Konis. Do i list what Make/model they are?

How accurate does the lowering of the car have to be, cause im putting in a larger engine and higher rated springs/shocks its a bit hard to really say...

ah my bad, I thought you were referring to the modifications that require written submission to RTA for approval in principle. Not the usual mod-plate modifications.

For parts that are coming off a different car (like the diff) list the car that its coming from.
For the diff, also list the hub to hub width.

For the brakes, find out what the calipers are from, then say 290mm by XXmm vented rotors with calipers from XXXX.

They wont care about what brand shocks are used in the car, as long as they have the correct amount of travel, which is normally more than 2/3rds of the original shocks.
Just say aftermarket shock absorbers with lowered springs. They will then check it further during final inspection.

    It's different state-by state.

Here in QLD there are "rubber stamp" approvals - things that Qld Tpt have already signed off on (eg. non turbo engine up to 4.2lt allowed for any 2WD Hilux) - and there are individual approvals (eg. if you wanted to go 5.0lt you have to justify reasoning, supporting mods, etc).
