i had a bit of spare time last week so i figured id test the thermostat in my sprinter, any who, pot on the stove, thermocouple and mutimeter to measure temp. heated to 82deg and nothing no opening, so i watched the temp rise and rise until the thing started opening, it wasn't until 94deg that thermostat opened. armed with the results i went down to toyota and ordered a brand new one, got home and the pot was still on the stove so i figured ill test the brand new one. the result was exactly the same 94deg opening.
has anybody else experienced this? i thought 82deg thermostat means open at 82 degrees?

The temp stamped on the thermostat is the temp it begins to open.
I think it takes about 10-12deg extra to open fully.

ditto. it should actually CLOSE at 82deg
(ie, thats the temp that water flow stops)
