what motors fit an 84 hiace?

hey all, looking at picking up an 84 hiace commuter van. but it has engine issues.

so im thinking worst case scenario i can put a new motor in it, but i'm informed that the current 2 litre motor it has isn't all that common to come accross.

so im wondering if u guys know of other toyota motors, probably something out of corolla's, crowns, celica's etc.. that will slot in with ease and not cost too much to buy and is readily available.

have a look at the build plate and tell us what engine is in it now

I'd be guessing it's a 3Y, which even if it is common should be turfed at the earliest available opportunity

with basic modes an S engine can bolt in, there was a thread very simular to this somewhere else just the other day

What motors have a W5* bell housing pattern?

Bloody heaps. People can vit a V6 buick in there so yeah. What the deal though, there's not really a firewall as such is there? I wonder now if a 3VZ camry motor intake would work in a van without mods...?
