dont really think so buddy 1jz a340's are electronic kickdown as 1g's are cable kickdown.. i think there will be things in the 1ggte a340e that the 1jz cant speak to...
tho i am no expert in this area at all
bad news from the mechanics today saying i cant wire up my gearbox from the old 1ggte to the 1jzgte im trying to put in. i have been told in the past i can use the old box i had in it with the 1ggte..now is it true i can use the old auto to fit up the 1j i want to put in?

No they both use a Cable, it isn't a "kickdown cable" so to say, it's a cable that controls line pressure in the transmission, I'm pretty sure the ECU takes care of which gear to shift down to under heavy throttle.
It's the same series box, so you can put it on you just need the proper bellhousing to adapt the 1jz to it, as for wiring you just find out which wires do what on your loom and join them to the appropriate wires on the box.
Cresta, you might have to check whether this is the case with your car. My 1G-GTE GZ10 Soarer halfcut had 2 ECU's. One to control the engine, and a standalone ECU to control the auto trans. If you have the standalone trans ECU, there should be very little standing in your way, except maybe the limited electrical knowledge of your mechanic.
cheers Chuck.
