    Default Audio Help

i have the vk with the 1j in it. The digital speed sensor on the gearbox is not connected as i have an analogue dash and so the cable is connected. However i want to connect one of the pioneer dynamic vehicle processors to the car, what i want to know if anyone has heard or used one is first, are they any good? and second what input do they need for speed or do they use GPS to calculate speed?? is the gbpx sensor the only speed sensor?

    cheers

I am not sure quite what you mean but stating the thread title i assume this is only an audio thing like an amp or something, or does it do more. Thus is the speed input only to adjust the volume with respect to the motor speed? My experiance with these things is it actually has a microphone and measures extra noise and compensates by adjusting volume.

rightfully the gearbox sensor is the only speed sensor. I find it hard to beilieve though that you are running both a cable and an electronic one as both would share the same hole. Your ECU woudl throw an error over about 3000rpm due to no speed singal from the dash to the ECU so that electronic one should still be there. I know the toyota one woould be a pink wire but in your case i would not be able to advise... bit more information with respect to what your wanting to achieve would be helpful. I am guessing the pinoeer system has a GPS system in it???

The Pioneer DVP is a pretty trippy bit of gear. I haven't fitted one as yet, but some of my other installers have and say it works really well. It will need a VSS wire connection to operate correctly as it displays speed in real time, GPS is not enough.
This diagram shows the Vehicle Speed Sensor wire as well as the RPM wire on a 1J ECU. This will have to be connected as NDGCPR said, your car would run like shit without it.

well i have no electronic parts plugged into the gbox only the cable which goes straight from the gbox to the dash, and the dash is original commodore so it does not reconnect back to the ecu, so there must be another sensor other than the one on the gbox cause it runs fine

    You sure about that?

I have a cable speedo and mine connects back to the ECU, its only a single wire it is easy to miss.

Vl's were all EFI from memory so it most probably did have an speed output signal, i did a quick search and found this VL forum

    http://calaisturbo.com.au/showthread...oto=nextnewest

    it states:

"Check connections to the speedo unit in your dashboard (i know, weird place for tranny stuff, but bear with me ..) ..
The speedo unit in the back of the dash cluster sends pulses to the cars electronics that represent the speed of the vehicle. They go to the ECU, auto box, and cruise control. If youv got cruise, you'll prolly find it wont engage when its having its problems. If you run an ECU diagnostic (search these forums for how..) you'll probably find its got a code for "Speed sensor" .. "

So it looks to me that the dash does output a speed signal...

Who wired the motor to the car? maybe they could help

Other than what has been suggested above you can buy a speed sensor that has a cable connection... they look something like this:

where can you buy them from???

i dont have a vl i have a vk, different dashes. There is a cable that runs from the gbox straight into the back of the analogue speedo and the speedo has no outputs or even wires to it. So if it runs shit there must be another sensore other than where the dash one plugs in, thats the only thing i can think of.

the dash does not connect back to the ecu

    please help

Hmm toshay (or however you spell it) i dunno why i thought you had a VL. Oh well, I would try and use TwinGT's diagram then and see what is running off the ECU as there will be a speed singal on that pin of the ECU unless something has been done dodgy.

Should be able to buy them from EFI places like Petroject or larger auto parts places like AC Delco etc.

another twist, decided to reset the ecu cause it was idling so slowly 500rpm. bad idea, of course it went back to runnin a bit funny, runs fine apart from, if you rev it slowly it cuts it self out at 2200rpm and then kicks in again but if you rev ahrd it doesnt flinch at all, its wierd, think it might have somethin to do with the throttle position sensor as thats what stopped it the first time. and it still revs at 600rpm. this shit is weird????

Most VK's had the Varapig carb and EST rather than the optional EFI, and that EFI was hardly a sophisticated bit of kit. EFI ones lost the VST and had an entirely mechanical distributor, and the fuel system is something very similiar to the one used on Ceaser's chariot. Not too many speed sensor wires there! From memory there was only a throttle switch, flap air flow meter, temp sensor, and wire to the coil -ve.

yep mate thats pretty much the extent of the efi setup, bloody easy to diagnose though.

any ideas on the weird cut out?? its weird when you are driving cause when ya take your foot off it feels like its cutting fuel out so its real jerky when ya lift then tap the accel again???
