    Default Sprinter Carpets

Last month my brother replaced the carpet in his AE86, purchased the set (front and back) from a place down in Wantirna South called "Knox Auto Carpets"

Upon trying to fit the carpet to the rear, found the fit absolutely terrible. What we did was took the rear carpet back to them and they showed us the mould which looked fine at the front but way off at the back. We had a look at my AE71 rear floor which is very similar, looked at the early 80's corolla mould and decided to get them to mould one of them on the spot. Took it home and it was a much better fit.

So what I'm getting at is...
    • They were very helpful and I recommend them
    • When buying replacement sets of carpet from them, make sure you order "Sprinter 83-85" front carpet and Corolla "81-84" rear carpet

You will find it to be a much better fit.

    That is all

The problem we had in fitting ours was the bit in front of the seat that goes up had a curve in it because the mould was like this, whereas the AE71/KE70 mould had a better shape as far as the angles are concerned. The sprinter carpet we got first also had the bit for rear mount of the bucket seats in a completely wrong position about 6 inches off, whereas the corolla carpet lined up fine.

    Maybe they changed the mould.

If anyone does order through them I suppose it would be worth letting them know about this topic and asking if they've changed their mould since a couple of months ago.

Wish we had have taken pics now.

I also fitted some of these carpets a while ago (2 years + I think?) and they fitted fine.
Cutting the holes and stuff was a pain in the ass.. but the actual curves were ok.

I purchased some AE86 carpets from them about 5 years ago - they seemed to fit fine. Lots of holes to cut.

From memory the KE70/AE71 floor pan is similar enough to the AE86 to be considered identical... wonder why the moulds are different.

Makes me think they may have been outsourcing for some time before realising they're being ordered more often, enough so to produce a mould of their own.

Thing is, looking at that back half of the mould really makes me wonder what they actually moulded it off. Because it wasn't AE86 that's a certainty.

But yeah, my advice stands. If you get carpets order corolla back and sprinter front. I still recommend them, they were very helpful and are cheaper than other places (like where my dad works, who buy them from knox and sell at a mark up to trimmers who don't know of knox).
