Default Single turbo conversion completed but need your thoughts

    ey guys
ive got a mx83 with a 1jzgte and now a brand spanking new gt3582R, 6boost manifold and a tial 44mm ext gate in the bay. Ive got a 2jz 440 injectors and a greddy emanage ultimate running the show. The auto has been rebuilt to withstand 500hp and im cooling the air with the stock jzx81 fmic.

Now after breaking the bank ive realised i need to buy more things to accomodate so its never going to end lol

I know really i should upgrade the fmic and get bigger injectors, fuel pressure regulator, ebc, shift kit and then get it all tuned but it all costs money.

I was thinking to just leave the current setup and get it tuned. What sort of power do you guys rekon i would get and how do you guys rekon it would drive. Atm its heaps laggy because it aint tuned..so really im tossing up if i should keep spending or just get it tuned.

The car is my daily so im not chasing big top end hp but would prefer all torque. I just want a quick reliable street car.

I even thought maybe i should of gone the gt3082R..

    anyones opinions would be great

deffinately upgrade intercooler, mine made a huge difference even with the standard turbos. if you car is auto then that turbo is going to be laggy with standard convertor, what exhaust housing is it? if your gearbox has been built to handle 500hp does it not already have a valvebody/shift kit?

Sleepercorty, it's .82 rear housing. The auto was rebuilt by the last owner and that's what the receipts say. The auto box doesn't feel like it has any thing special though. At the moment it feels very laggy. What should be my next step?

intercooler, just buy a china 600x300 mine cost me $200, valvebody costs $350 from mv's and your going to need at least a 3500rpm convertor probably around $650? injectors find some 550cc sidefeed can be had for around the $350-400 for a set. mine with those mods made around 450rwhp with similar size turbo on 20psi. also a walbo intank pump if you dont already have one.
have a look through my build thread should give you an idea what you need to do.

seeing as you have reciepts for the box who built it?

It shouldn't be all that laggy. I'd still think about getting it tuned properly, A good tuner will wind the crap out of the timing down low to make it spool faster before the turbo puts the dynamic compression ratio above the 12:1 mark as the boost is coming on. I'd have a hunt online for a dyno tuned map someone has uploaded with a similar turbo as yours and compare what your ECU is setup to do. Make sure you enrich the tune points down low a touch if you find a timing map that's got some big advance happening down low and you've got the confidence to fiddle.

Big Stally and maybe a transbrake if your keen is what you need to really make an auto lauch hard.

    alrite guys update!!!

ive upgraded the front mount cooler and got it tuned yesterday and here are the results

i got 240kw at the wheels at 16psi. My tuner said my injectors were at 70% duty cycle.

Now i was driving it home and it was smoother but at the end of the day compared to before the tune there isnt much difference. My tuner said i really gotta run the turbo at like 20psi to get it really going. Which means bigger injectors and more money

Its still laggy off the mark but i think its because of the standard torque converter and the single setup. Im not going to change to manual but i was thinking about changing to a 0.63 rear housing instead of the .84

    what do you guys rekon?

gt35 and standard convertor is going to be laggy no matter what you do, you really need a minimum of a 3000rpm convertor, if it was my car i would go atleast 3500rpm. i run a 4500rpm convertor with a t66 (same as to4z) with a .7 t4 housing which is basically the next size turbo up from a gt35

.63 housing doesnt come on gt35?... i thought it was only for gt30 turbo's..

but you can change your front housing to a .5 A/R housing from an xr6 turbo, or from garrett whatever.. to spool her up abit faster

hmmz thanks for your help guys

i dont have the funds to get a higher convertor, so thats not an option

im looking to get the same response as the twins with abit more mid range

maybe i should downgrade to a gt30 with a .63 rear housing then?

save up the $400 for a converter... TRUST ME...

we have got the gemini running with the same turbo, on the stock ecu on 8psi (just to get it running to iron out some typical conversion stuff)... wheelspin 1st, 2nd, 3rd...

but then again... that is in a 1000kg 4 door TG gemmie lol... still have 15x9's and 235's under the mini tubs though

    hey mattysshop

thanks for the advice, can you tell me how the higher convertor works?..

Because the car is a daily, how will the car drive?

by the way what transmission are you running on the gemini?

ive got a 2j with a built box and 3500rpm convertor. to4z and on 20psi and made 434rwhp. that was loose. I drove it with 8psi and it just revved and had a smooth rush to it. I know its not much of a comparison. With a higher convertor it lets the motor rev easier and get the motor and turbo working in their proper rpm to move. Thats a basic idea.

my mate who ownes it (we havn't nutted out the full build yet, but it's driving...) , reckons it's great to drive.. he has the 1.5 shift kit, and 4200 MV converter (highest they do IIRC)... it 'starts' to take up on light throttle at about 1900-2000rpm... not too bad really.. and he has a manually operated switch for the lock up in 4th...

might be a different situation with your car though.. this is a 1000kg TG Gemmie, and 4.3 hilux rear end (custom 4 link ofcourse)

box is just the A341LE (Aisin tag on the box says 30-41LE, this deciphers as A341LE apparantly, which has a slightly different 1st gear than the A304e)
