Yeah I have some ACL heat shield stuff, I am thinking of wraping with the ceramic wrap as used on the manifold then hose clamping on the ACL heat shield stuff around the wraped wires.

Is this what you are suggesting?

Yes with the gap.

Put in a small shield between the cable and the heat source, and cover with ACL - or just use a proper already-to-go heat shield.

Just a thought on this problem mate. I had a Celica owner contact me about multiple starter motor failures/meltdowns. The last starter he fitted had heat mat wrapped around the solenoid, and the damn thing had still failed. Turns out the guys who installed the extractors could not find the correct manifold bolts, and had just rummaged through the spare parts bucket and used whatevber was available. The shorter than normal bolts they used resulted in the bolts walking out of the head, and allowing exhaust gasses to blast straight onto the starter. New bolts new gasket and all has been well for over 18 months.

I think this may have been partly the problem also, Last practice day my manifold craked a pipe completely, could have been happening for some time. Fixed the crack, I used double wall heat shrink on the main starter wire and solenoid wire, follwed by ceramic heat wrap and another layer of double wall heat shrink for good measure. Worked fine all weekend. So manifold could have been part of the problem.

Since the manifold was fixed noticely more power so I managed to snap an axle (BW78 28 spline axle from R31 skyline) after the first race. The fact that I was on two wheel through the first corner may not have helped.
