Yes you can fit them
does an '89 glx cressida have the same body as a '91 grande?.. i'm wondering whether i could fit a door from a glx onto my grande?...
Yes you can fit them
[Gentlemen's Club]
is that right? . so they are exactly the same body yeah? also, is a '91 model called series 1 and '92 series 2?
The body is the same, but there a minor differences in the lights, bumpers and bars - all of which are interchangable.
Here is the exact details on the S1/S2 definition:
The difference in the engine mounts is in spacing and angle, S1 crossmembers measures from the center of the engine mount base plate bolt hole to bolt hole is 523mm, and S2 crossmembers from the same place is a bit under 490mm. And the changeover date for the crossmembers was Feb 1990 to match the release of the 1JZ in Japan. JZX81 production started in Aug 90, the exact same time our Series 2 MX83 was put into production.
bumper are different. i think the front guards maybe different, i went to fit a S2 bumper onto my S1 and it seems that the guards dont want to except the new bumper.
doors are the same.
My understanding is that Grande and GLX do not define the body types. The body type changed only with the change of the series. eg: Series 1 started in late 1988 and continued through to somewhere in late 1990. The first of the series 2 started in late 1990 and continued to early 1993.
The bumpers, front and rear quarter panels, grille and all lights (except headlights) are different from series 1 to series 2. The doors are the same throughout, but the door handles went from chrome (series 1) to colour coded (series 2).
Body difference examples:
- Series 1 has the front side indicator as part of the corner (parker) light assembly. The series 2 has the front side indicator separate in the guard behind the front wheel arch. Thus, the series 2 has a rectangular hole there.
- Series 1 bumpers require recesses in the front and rear guards, where the Series 2 bumpers are much taller and the guard therefore stops shorter. The bumpers from one series to the other are NOT interchangeable without modifications to the guards.
- Series 1 has a little marker light on top of the front guards which lights up when the headlights are on. The series 1 guards therefore have small holes in them there. The Series 2 hasn't got this marker light.
Body parts you can swap between series without modifications:
- boot
- bonnet
- doors
- door handles
- mirrors
- headlights
- grille
- wheels.

Simon.
1991 Toyota Cressida (JZX83).
1967 Morris Mini Deluxe (1330cc A+).
headlights do not change over without loosing an indicator, S1 have indicators built in, s2 have them on the front fenders seperately as previously mentioned.
also, rear lights on an s2 are different (narrower) as is the panel behind them and the number plate surround and rear bumper..

I'm running s2 gear in s1 shell.
S2 front and rear bar (with no guard mods that i can see), grill and indicators.
The s2 rear bumper has number plate light in it which i had to get re-wired when i got my road worthy done. I'm also running a series one lip on the s2 front bar, which requires a few mods to fit.

One thing i just noticed about series 1 -> series 2
In the series 2 on the rear doors at the start of the trim is flat and then gets thicker to the full size trim
Series 1 is just trim from the start to the end of the rear door. weird.
