i have no rep points so i sell my stuff on ebay

Some assembly required
yeah i put up a build thread on my car here but still no rep points are forthcoming... i guess its top secret which sections of the forum you have to post in to be given points...
i ended up selling the stuff i had through ebay. too bad, toymodders could have had an exclusive, instead they had to bid on the stuff on ebay like everyone else. i disagree with this policy.

also, no matter how many posts i make, my post count doesn't go up past 5. what's up with that?

Some of the rules on here may seem weird at first, but a couple of things make it easier to understand.
1) This is not a trading post, and I dont think the board ever intend it to be. The classifieds are there for long term members to buy/sell worthwhile and collectable stuff with other long time members. If people come on here wanting to offload a bunch of boring/common crap, they can use plenty of other forums and ebay.
2) This club is a technical based club. No. 1 priority is not social events, blinged up rides, or volume traffic through classifieds. It's about sharing technical knowledge amognst toyo-nerds.
That's why a lot of the rules on here are different to AE86DC and NS.com etc... and to be honest it keeps it pretty clean
So only certain technical sections allow users to give you rep points, and certain priviledges (like avatars, for sale threads, etc) are only granted after a level a membership/rep/posts/etc have been acheived.
if you read teh FAQs it says that posts in the car related and tech sections only count towards your post count.
As you rep... you can't allocate rep in vehicle ride threads, as with the post count, it only counts in car related and tech forums.
ok, thanks for the clarification. i will see if i can make a contribution in the relevant sections!

Definitely agree with Timbo on this one. Since the new rules have come in (2005 if I remember correctly), the whole forum has cleaned up a lot. It was becoming a rabble, and yet another porn/trading post site like the abovementioned. Although there are some exceptions whereby a person with limited rep/posts etc has an item of collectable value to pass onto a worthy home, the fact remains that there is an overwhelming number of people who just want to use forums such as this as free advertising for their undesired wares (note there is no rep/post restriction on selling a whole car). Unfortunately, to be able to hold everything together for the masses, the forum moderators must apply one rule to all.
In short, if anyone has any greivances with the rules, please direct them at the people who would seek to abuse the site's free signup.
As for the OP, asking good technical questions to try and gain help (not just things like "how do I undo a bolt" or "how much doof can i get from a 21" sub") will often net positive rep. I know I have given plenty out for well worded questions. So you don't have to be a tech guru to get rep, you just need to want to learn.

also, asking/fishing for rep is a sure way to go backwards in your quest for more rep
