    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/3SGTE-INTAKE-...item1e60b305e0

Does any one know the size of a standard 3SGTE throttle body?

Im thinking its just a pretty shiny mainfold? Not worth the $1.5k?

Any thoughts surgestions on a good place to look?

its a copy of the JUN manifold, the standard 3SGTE throttle body is 55mm for gen2 and 60mm for gen3.
i dont think an 80mm throttle body is warranted on anything but a crazy drag car or dyno car. i run 55mm with an adapter to lose the stock gen2 funnel. from RMR racing, and i also have an RMR inlet manifold.

for 1500 get a used RMR one

Thanks mate, that was a quick reply!

Yeah I was thinking it was a bit over priced for a no-name brand.

If you don't mind me asking what type of power are you making with what mods? Just trying to work out what direction I want to take my 3SG

    Kind Regards,

or ATS in america can cut up your old one and weld a new bigger plenum on.

do you have gen2 or gen3? other option for gen2 is to get the st162 NA plenum, it's side feed and bigger and the gen2 TB will bolt on with a minor mod if you still require the elec ISCV.

i have a 2.2L gen2 3S-GTE and too many mods to mention, currently making 430hp with a 55mm throttle body.

my advice, go for responsiveness rather than max power up top.

Rather than $1500 on a manifold, why not buy a 3SGTE from a Caldina that comes with a much better side-intake manifold, bigger turbo, better ignition system, top feed injectors and Shim under bucket lifters.

    $1500 much better spent.

Hey guys thanks for the info!

Before I say it and get flamed to death This is my work car (daily driver), I did the conversion myself and 90% of the costs have been claimed agaisnt tax on my buisness... otherwise I would have never have done any of this!

The car in question is an SV21 Camry stationwagon with a recently rebuilt (only done 40,000 kms) 3SGE Gen 1, standard Camry gearbox but with expensive oil and a exedy heavy duty clutch rated to 300hp, a SARD FPR, Genie Extractors 2.5 inch exhaust with a Varex (variabile) Muffler, remote oil filter and oil cooler kit and a Microtech lts10 ECU, with X4 ignitor box and 4 ignition coils.

Have been looking at keeping the donk NA, but any mods to get much more power will make the car a bit undriveable in traffic, and uneconomical on long trips. I realise all power mods will make the car less economical, but i have always been partial to the sound of a good huffer...

I have got my self a GTE head for free from a mate that needs a VRS kit run through it, so the option is on the cards. However no inlet/exhaust manifolds or turbo, so thats why im having a look around.

I realise the GE block dosent have oil squirters like the GTE block, but I have read with a lot of aftermarket pistions they need to be removed anyways? Besides the pistions being different and the oil pump the seem virtualy the same. A thicker head gasket and a good tune should do it, this car will never see much more WOT than a couple quarter mile runs, so not too concerned, plus there is a cooler behind the grill anyways...

A Caldina donk hey? Cheers JFallen, may see if there is some second hand turbos/manifolds floating around.

    Kind Regards,

    Ryan

If you've got a Gen1 3SGE, you've already got the side intake manifold that should look alot like this:

This is a unit many ST185-GT4 owners upgrade to as it's much much better than the factory ST185/MR2 intake. Don't waste cash swapping this out.

As for a Caldina 3SGTE (Gen3.5 if you will) it's got a "Turbofold." ie: turbocharger cast into the exhaust manifold. Full motors pop up from time to time for <$1500 or well under $2000 including gearbox...

    Go the SV21 hatch.
