Thumbs up Borg Warners new website engine modelling tools

    Linky Linky

Since I'm bored at work, and have to be there for 12 hours, I've been doing a fair amount of research into new turbochargers from Garrett, Tomei and now Borg Warner (BW.) (Expect a full writeup on the GTX3076R vs teh EFR7670 tomorrow.)

But importantly I stumbled across this very powerful piece of software embedded in the BW website. It takes a while to get the hang of (and understand) but is an awesome piece of free software to correctly size your BW turbocharger. The helpful hits are well worded and answer the questions you have.

Personal note, set Engine Volumetric efficiency to a flat 92%, BSFC to 0.575. This was also a great comparison to my worksheet, which in turn came within 3%. The difference is here you select a boost pressure and engine parameters and it spits out a power. In mine you specify engine parameters and it spits out required boost. The real wonder with this site is how it plots all data on both compressor and turbine maps, something that using my package you had to to manually.

Hope you find it as interesting as I did

Nice find...looking into these new generation BW turbos and they look the goods. I'll have to find the time to have a play with this as could help with the tough decision to ditch the KKKs?

edit: just had a quick play and both the 6258 and 6758 look as good as expected with the smaller one a tad ahead....very subtle differences plotted on the comp maps though, it would be cool if it offered some advice on comparisons

it could but as I sad before it's an expensive $4000 for 5%. Just bolt the supercharger back on

I assume the GTX has the gains? Not too shabby from just a redesigned wheel? A bee's dick laggier, but all over 3000rpm so real world it wouldn't matter much. Is it worth the extra dollars though?

Yeah thats it, no quicker spool, slightly better efficiency for a lot more cost

A lot of them seem to be quite 'high' in the comp map - ie, most of the map is at higher pressure ratios.
Having a play around, whilst quite a bit more detailed than my own quick sheet, it spat out similar numbers for my 7MGTE, but I couldn't really find a map I'd be happy with.

Would love to see a (or a pair where applicable) BW BV50(s) applied to something other than a Porsche 997 turbo.

i dont know about the turbo sizing software, they never seem to supply a big enough turbo.
the 7670 has caught my eye tho.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.

the comparison is not really gt3076r vs gtx3076r.... it should be gt35r vs gtx3076r as with improved efficiency you can make power on a 30 that you would previously have needed a 35r for, hence you are actually getting a win/win
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....

But they are comparing the two and showing that there is real gain. So wouldnt comparing a GT35 to it just be pointless since we all know a GT35 will flow more then a GT3076?

i think he means comare the new gtx3076 to an old gt35r, as the new gtx3076 is supposed to flow close to the same as a old gt35r. so it'd be good to see if it does and how much quicker it spools etc

AH Well if we can find a GT3037 vs GT35 you could use that to compare with this graph
