    Default Engine just lost compression

Have been working on just standard 2t engine, cultch and gearbox transplant after son smashed his TA22. I just started with the radiator not conneccted for 30 secs and lost all compression.

I gather I have stuffed it anyone know which end would have gone top or bottom.

Will pull head off tomorrow a bit distrought with all the work I have put in not sure what I am going to do.

No it was running smooth the heat from not having any water has blown something I gather.

I just wanted to make sure it was running before putting in the radiator

30 seconds will not likley cause overheating.

I would look at the basics first.

yeh, wouldn't overheat in 30secs, if it didn't have oil then yes you'd stuff it.

You should really check compression with a gauge and see if it is a particular cylinder or the whole engine before pulling the head off. It can be hard to find small type failures if you don't know where to look.

As said above takes quite a while to overheat an engine even without water so that won't be your issue

As has been said do some checks first, what makes you think that you have " lost all compression" ...

Just turning with the sarter motor I can tell by the sound (Like turning over with no plugs in) and and pull around by the fan with no resistance. I will have a better look in the morning.

    Thanks all

As I said before no compression and cam all working I have not touched this angine as was a 50 k 2T that came with the car as a spare.
Have removed the head and all looks good but a lot of big carbon particle's that I gather have interfered with the closing of the valves. So I will de carbon and have a close look at the head and remove valve and lap the valves and check valve guids and seals.

Question !! do thses 2 T heads have problem with cracks?

On closer inspection it seems that, because engine has been sitting for year, the head gasget went a little rusty around the bore and seperated and I think that is were the compression was lost. The bore still has hone marks and no lip at the top that I can feel.

sorry guys but I have more questions about my engine.

This engine has hi top pistons so would that make it a post 1975 manufacture?

I need to order some gaskets and I am unsure of the year of manufacture. As I have said not the orig motor.
    Hope someone can help?

    Thanks in advance
