    Default 1UZ headers (MA61)

Making the headers is probably going to be one of the biggest turning points of doing my conversion, has anyone got pictures/designs/drawings/ideas about the 'best' way to make headers to suit a UZ in an A61?

I'm planning to go 4 into 1, with 1.5in tube, into a 2.5in merge on each side, Y-peiced together into 3in, then the cat, mufflers etc.

The engine will most likely stay stock internally, running an Adaptronic, without boost...there's an 'ideal' pipe length, but I don't know what it is...anyone who does is welcome to comment

And the biggest design problem...getting around the steering shaft. Any pics? I had a quick look at Cruzidas headers, which looked like the rearmost tube comes forward, does a 180 bend, and then sweeps back with the rest...I wish I'd taken a closer look now! If anyone else has done a different design, I'm always open to suggestions

Rep for all with info! *waves rep stick*

For a stock the design won't really matter as long as it's not crap...more a case of what will sensibly fit.

Have a look at all the off the shelf options 1st as using one of those will save you alot of coin. Try XS power in the US....for n/a their's are hard to beat for price. Being a 'chinese' option, they can need a touch up sometimes but i run them on my SC UZ and happy with how they are holding up so far.

Any idea how close the 'XS POWER' ones would come to fitting?

    Also: cheers for the pics!

Not 100% related but i made a set of 4-1 for the vl, in hindsight i possibly should have made them with slighty smaller pipes and tri-y's instead as getting 4 pipes arouns a steering column proved difficult with mm to spare on most things. I used 1"3/4 due to likely of forced induction. No science what so ever due to fittment. The vl is quite tight though.
piccys anyway. Thes also have ceramic coated due to closeness of everything!!!

there's certainly plenty of cheap options for tundra headers, they're all quite compact though, and probably won't fit ;P

Cruz: the 2 bolt flange on the drivers side header: is that for fitment? IE one pair of pipes goes each side of the steering collum?

Also, will 'short' headers like these

make much difference either way as far as power output/torque? Or is the stock design shitty enought hat it doesn't make much difference either way?

IMO shorties will suffice for the power levels you want (unless you are going BS NA like Ed).

The 2 bolt flange is so you can remove the exhaust without removing the steering column/shaft

You'd have to try hard to end up with custom headers that perform worse or even the same as any of teh factory jobs (with the possible exception of the VVTi ones)

Heres what teh Rush ones look like on the engine if its any help
