Default ** Frame Fracture .... Steering arm? **

    Hey there,

I have noticed there is alot of play in my steering in my RA23 Celica, so i grabbed an innocent passer by to turn the steering wheel while i try and locate the source of the play. Upon inspection i noticed when the steering wheel is turned and you look in behind the wheel.... it seems that where the steering arm pivot is bolted from the other side .... there is a section of metal that flexes excessivly? ... is this a common problem? i was told by a local mechanic it was?

Anyone know of a welder in brisbane/sunnycoast that would sort it?

like i said buddy a picture speaks a thousand words.. But yes pitman arms usually have a splined end where they bolt onto the sector shaft of the steering box and a tapered end where they bolt onto a drag link arm or some sort of steering linkage and its usually the tapered end that gets loose and flogs out..

This always happened to mine and welded it up a few times. Rack n pinion fixed it in the end. But if not going down that path you need to do some reinforcing.

^What he said. Flex there is a common problem with this type of steering, so reinforce it or convert to rack n peanut
