Practice day of the RevSpeed Tsukuba Circuit Super Battle showed significant promise for Friday’s competition day. However it did not prepare us for the calibre of Pro class competitors and what they were bringing to the table. Let’s cut to the chase shall we?
Revolution RX-7; 53.6 seconds with a top speed of 225.8 kph (video soon to be posted at worldtimeattack.com). This is a blisteringly fast time around such a tight circuit. When asked about the specs, they stated a surprisingly modest 540hp from a 13b Mazda Rotary.
Of the top 5 placing cars, 4 were Mazda FD3S RX-7’s, those of which include long time rivals PanSpeed & R-Magic. However, one of the more exciting cars to watch was Tarzan Yamada, piloting the Street Special Garage Yahata R32 GT-R, which managed to hit the fastest speed of 226.7 kph. For a car that is significantly simpler and particularly ‘old-school’ in comparison to the Revolution RX-7, this is incredible. The car was also running NOS, and the radiator in the passenger seat to make room for the enormous intercooler in the engine bay. See below to watch Tarzan taking it around the track:
