Default Custom Alloy TA22/RA23-28 Fuel tanks

Hey guys just wanted to start a discussion in the hope of designing and building a custom fuel tank for our old gals as initially discussed in HKS7MGE build thread. http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/sho...31#post1231631

Going by the ebay link, it seems likely that I will have a contact to get them made in China and hopefully for a retail price of $500-$600.

    So, where to start?

The TA22 one should be able to be made square which will help keep costs down. Should I base the design to take the commodore fuel pump?If so, I assume it will need to be mounted on its side on the lowest point of the tanks, can they be mounted in this way? What other generic fuel pump options can be used that can maybe draw from the top? I guess we will keep the fuel level sender threaded holes the same with the option of an adaptor plate if your running a VDO one like I am in mine. Then its just EFI fuel line barbs, would probably prefer to stay away from the clear fuel level hose especially if they end up being identical capacity to the origional with standard fuel level position.

So thats a start on the 22's..

Im not familiar with RA28's so I will leave this part open.

Anyways, hopefully there will be enough interest to get an off the shelf bolt in set up organised and retailed.

    Cheers

I'd also be interested, for around $500...

A VL turbo intank pump would be the go for sizing IMO.

    Good idea anyway!

Cool, well just got off the phone with my mate Craig and we will start putting our heads together regarding design for the TA22 item. I will make a couple up here in Aus and see how they go.
probably will look to mke the efi lines threaded to take speed flow fittings too.

    Stay tuned.

    Nath.

Great idea and I'd be interested as the weight saving would be nice.

As I am a Mikuni carb freak my problem with the OEM tank is the pickups, located such as they are drives me wild with the fuel surge and the fact that it is not simple to connect up a couple of pumps and mount a surge tank.

I would like to have two central downwards threaded (say -6 or -8) outlets with some form of internal baffle or dropped section with the baffle to keep the fuel in the centre.

Also the breather and inlet to match up with the OEM 22 filler port and maybe the same fitting arrangement for the OEM fuel level sensor.

If it would be able to comply with minimum FIA/CAMS/ANDRA regs then even better and I can fill it with foam.

    Regards

    Rodger

    Rodger,

I dont think there would be much to gain the weight saving dept, from the memory the originals are not that heavy to start with. Can you run me through what will be ANDRA approved? Not really looking to go all out for these I just want to get an easy bolt in solution but if the Andra box isnt too hard to tick then i will definately put in the effort required to make it comply.

Will definately make the filler/inlet the same as standard and I cant see why we cant have a provision for the carbi cars with the feed lines exiting from the baffled section, its somthing im sure we could do here after its made and just ad too it if needed.

Now I just have to pull my finger out

    cheers

RA28s are an under-floor tank Ricey... so you'd have to do a drop tank.

If you look at doing drop tanks for KE70/AE71.... im on board. I soooo want a drop tank on my KE70

    i'd have a ta22 tank 100% for certain.

re: in tank pump i'd use something like what the VN - VS use - they mount on the side no issues.
the later VT onwards have to mount on the top.
note the VL turbo 'in tank' pump is a lift pump - the VL turbo hi pressure pump is an external device which sits just outside the tank.
