I do note this clause, "in the case of a club historic vehicle that is not a street rod, a current certificate of roadworthiness or a letter from a scrutineer authorised by the club, stating that the vehicle is safe for use on the road".

This should remove responsibility on a club appointed scrutineer hopefully, if the club elect to shift that responsibility back onto the vehicle owner.

There is no trace that I could find of the club permit discussion paper that once was there.

I think it's a great system. I have three cars on Club Permit now. I like the idea of being able to take one to work occasionally to keep it ticking over without ogranising a day permit the month before. Similarly if I want to go down the Great Ocean Road for the day on the spur of the moment, I can!

Buy here's something to chew on. A Club Permit is $120 for 90 days (including CTP). 4 x 90 = 360 days of motoring, basically a year. 4 x $120 is just $480 where ful rego is about $550ish? So you can register four old cars on Club Permit for less than one full rego. Awesome!

Brett - we have two inspectors now, so it won't be all landing in Graeme's lap.

Pete - most of the clubs have been making their members get roadworthy's for a while now with the current scheme, rather than relying on a club inspector. We have stuck with Graeme rather than go do than that path and I would think we will continue to do so.

And as for the club having the option of revoking club permits, I think its great. Right now someone can join up and get club rego, and then disappear for 12 months and get up to god knows what with the car. The ability for us to have a discussion with said person and pull the priveledge if need be is excellent.

The current scheme has also required users to be financial car club members to be valid, its just no one has been able to do anything about it if they lapse before the rego. Now we can, which again is great. Give people fair warning, so the "I forgot to pay" excuse is no longer valid, then can their club rego... you want the privelege.. play by the rules!

Sounds good. I will need to get RWC's anyway, and two of the three will need engineering due to engine changes not available in Australia as an option for that car.

But knowing Graeme, and his level of experience, I see it as a huge bonus to have the benefit of him inspecting my car as well. We (TCCAV) are very fortunate to have him volunteer his services in this way.

The new scheme seems a win win situation for everyone, and really Victoria police and vicroads have to be commended for their approach to the whole issue.

Like Bnicho, I am excited that I will be able to use my cars for an occasional weekend cafe run, run down to the beach without the family barge, or a hillclimb event. It is going to allow me to actually use the cars.

Not sure why you will need to get RWC's done, but up to you really!

With club rego you don't need to get them engineered. That is part of the beauty of our system.

Of course if you want the "comfort" the piece of paper provides then that is another thing entirely, but its not necessary to have an engineer's tick of approval for mods done to a club permit car in Victoria.

All three have been unregistered for years, so presumably need to have a RWC. I hope you're right about not needing engineering (4AGE in an AE86 and 2TG in a KE25), that would be a massive bonus. But I expect that may still require engineering. Also great that the AE86 will just sqeeze in under the age provisions!

Anyway, shall wait and see what Vicroads put out next year.

That's right, and VicRoads does not need to see the car either. Once the club is happy with it you take the paperwork the club gives you, fill in your form, rock up at VicRoads, pay your money and get your plates.

EDIT: Some clubs require an RWC. Other clubs have their own scrutineers like TCCAV. It's up to each club how they decide if the cars are safe.

So who do l get the forms off as mind runs out of reg in April next year.

For $120 a year and 90 days a year thats great value as l reckon l would be lucky to drive the car 50 days a year or 1 day a week providing it's not raining.

Yes, its cheaper, but your historic rego is a lot more restrictive isn't it? No mods except period mods and you can't use it for non-club events?

I predict a lot of people are going to join clubs when the new scheme is in here. This can only help the clubs. More members means more funds for the club coffers and also more of a lobbying presence.

Yes, only period mods... otherwise it wouldn't be a historic vehicle would it? Also allowed safety additions. So you could put on (for example) rear disc brakes and still have the vehicle under historic rego.

Can attend club events or events with other clubs so long as our club gets a written (or emailed) invitation. Non club use for service runs is permitted.
