Default 1970s Corolla Exhaust Manifold Gaskets

I have a 1978 Corolla Wagon (2TC) and like a lot of old Corollas I have a warped exhaust manifold. This causes a problem in terms of keeping a seal and keeping the header pipe gasket from burning out. We have looked at various gaskets as well as ideas on lock-nuts and welds to keep a seal in place. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding more durable gaskets and ideas for maintaining a seal? Thanks.

machine the manifold surface flat, will be a good start.
