I needed to retard my timing when I'm on 14psi boost but my compression is around 9.5:1.

I've ordered a flex fuel sensor to compensate this issue.

Does anyone here know somewhere that can rebuild a stock 18RGUE throttle body, or know of another unit from a later model vehicle which will fit (same size or smaller, I have low RPM throttle response issues)

Which model? EF-EL kinda looks promising. Butterfly turns the wrong way, but nothing I can't fix.

VS to VY Ecotec V6 throttle body looks promising... even runs the same IAC motor that I currently use (but is on the TB, so less pipework = GOOD!!)

If I do find a suitable alternative, and can get adaptors made locally, anyone interested in following suit (to make it more worthwhile for the dude who has to make the adaptors)?

Me, factory dizzy, locked with a single 'tooth' optical sensor and a 36-1 crank trigger wheel with hall effect sensor. I run coil on plug though.

Ahh okay, I thought maybe if you had done the electronic conversion using 21RC internals that you were using the wrong weights. That usually causes throttle response issues down low.

Let me know how you go, i have ended up replacing the turbo on my 1gee as im told it will be well suited to a vvti 1j also. running microleb though which at first was shit on cold start but since i rebuilt intake its idling a lot better but rich as fuck. mustve been leaking like a sieve

keep plugging away i wanna see this thing running

What ECU do you run again Owen?
Your crank triggering is identical to mine, but i've only got an early model Adaptronic E420c and it doesnt quite have enough inputs to have both the 36-1 crank trigger, plus a single tooth VR trigger on the dissy for the "home" sync signal.
I was just going to have the crank trigger and run wasted spark.

How did you make the optical sensor for the dissy?

    Megasquirt MS3X Witzy.

Fried my fuel pump on the dyno today. Not before we got 173.4hp at the treads. Did some cam tuning and got 341N.m of torque from 2000 to 5000rpm. Engine is maxing out at 5500rpm, torque dropping off after that. Cam tuning will be done once the fuel is sorted again. Those numbers were with 8.5psi boost. Will notch that up to 16psi with a boost pressure regulator. See if that opens up some more RPMs. With the 3.73:1 diff gearing I have, the lower torque is advantageous. Boost comes on really early too, which is great.

Should see 230rwhp or maybe a tad better with 16psi unless of course the 8.5psi tune was still way off fully maxed out in which case there could be plenty more!

My last dyno chart was dropping heavily from 5500rpm or so from memory however on the drag strip or street it would hit 7000rpm without any noticeable nosing over so it will be interesting to see how your engine behaves on the road/track. Get the fuel system sorted and crank that bad boy up!

I got 170rwkw at around 12lb boost with a GT25R turbo. With the larger GT28/60 I should be getting low-mid 200. I loved the little GT25 as it was so zippy and no lag. It ran out of puff above 5k rpm, but for street driving it was insanely good. The biggest issue I had was it was always on boost, and more so when cruising at freeway speeds. This raised engine temps a bit.

So the larger turbo is not really for extra performance (as 170rwkw is plenty of fun and power) but more for driveability where I can drive about the suburbs without boost being on all the time.

Mind you, the larger turbo makes fitting the air con compressor a tad tight, but it all fits.

Can't believe this has been a year and a half since the last post??? Anyways, my 18R-GTE has been emissions tested, engineered, and registered in 2 states...

So far, I damaged my manifold which caused overheating of the exhaust turbine, which disintegrated it (ceramic CT26). Replaced with a high flowed unit and repaired manifold.

The steam pipe bends and collector for my new manifold have arrived, which will allow me to make a unit for a T2 flanged turbo (have found what I think is a GT25 as an interim turbo until I can afford the $2500 for a shiny new GTX2871R). Hopefully as well as giving me a new manifold that is less ugly, it will also give me some more top end power that the CT26 hasn't been able to. Max power has been 170rwkw at about 5000rpm. Peak torque is 381N.m at around 3000rpm. I have a Turbosmart 14psi wastegate actuator, but start dropping boost at around 4000rpm, and drops to 12psi by 5500rpm.

On a side note, there will be a high flowed CT26 with 18RG manifold and dump pipe for sale reasonably cheap soon
