search Cuzzo's thread.
Ok I joined this forum in August when I purchased a real nice ke55 since then I have been searching for the required info to do a 4age conversion and have not found any thread that lays out exactly what is required for the conversion. I have found threads with parts of info so now I just want to confirm what I think is required.
I wish to do this as a bolt in conversion with out making mounts if possible.
So far the info I have found suggests the best way to do this is to get a ke70 use the ke 70crossmember and bolt into ke55 the 4age will then bolt to this.
The corolla ke55, 5 speed can be used or ke70 5speed but with the ke70 5speed the rear extention housing is different and wont allow the gear stick to come through the ke55 hole in the floor.
can anyone confirm this

search Cuzzo's thread.
You wouldn't use either of the KE55 or KE70 5-speed gearboxes, as they come with unchangeable bellhousings that only suit the K-series motors - you need the T50 from an AE71 (there are K50 gearboxes that bolt up to a 4AGE, but they never appeared in Aus-delivered cars so are incredibly rare)
And nothing about the 4AGE installation is as simple as "bolt-in", you will need custom fabricated engine mounts (or at least modified stock ones). Best place to look for all this info would be Rollaclub, there have been dozens of 4AGE conversions done over there so there probably isn't a question you have that doesn't have an answer there.
AE102 - Charlene the Old Faithful, Reborn
JZZ30 - Lexi the Spacecruiser, 1JZGTE>>3SGE. 200rwkw, hunting Skylines and n00bs in SS Commodores
ST162 - Charlie the non-ghey Celica, 3SGE>>4AGE. GOOOOOOOONE
AE82 - Rosie the Bitsa from Hell, 70.8kw atw. Has been converted into garage space and money at last
KE55 - Billie the Beast, sadly missed
Dont let "custom enigne mounts" scare you though, its not that hard to make them up.
Best way to go about it would be to get an ae71 cross member and mod it to fit the ke55, then do the same with the t50 gearbox mounts ect.. obviously you'll need a pedal box out of somthing to provide hydraulics to the clutch ect.. so maybe keep an eye out for a cheap ae71 being wrecked and rip some bits off of it.
rest is like wiring ect.. installing efi lines/pumps, exhaust, cooling system... fair bit to do but if you persist you will get it done.
remember KE55 and KE70 steering setups are totally different, and the chassis rail widths (for bolting on cross-member) are also appreciably different..
but rack and pinion steering from the KE70 would be the way to go... but means you need to change steering column as well.
bolt in = no

Ya get that..
nothing is ever straight forward or ever goes to plan... well at least most of the time it doesn't.
Ok thanks guys I have been miss informed or I have miss understood which is just what I wanted to know I will check out rollaclub

Flatchat.
Google is your friend. Search search and search somemore..
then if theres anything you might need clarification on. Post it up. Make sure the questions aren't too broad like..."What do i do to get a 4age in my ke55" and you will get people to spend some time on their replies to set you straight.
Good luck.

i got mounts if u need some
KE38 - 2TG
MS65 - 1UZ
Hi Josh what mounts have you got what do they suit?
The AE71 cross member will be too wide for the KE55. You could redrill it, but then you'll upset the steering geometry, extra neg camber on factory struts for sure, but the scrub radius will be messed up, maybe struts from a RA60 might make it all tie together right, but I'm stabbing in the dark. Custom mounts and gearbox cross member will have less variables to deal with.
scrub radius is a tyre/strut thing? not a steerign thing
the different length steering arms may be an issue, but usually, one would take the KE70 struts and LCA's at the same time.. to keep the "system" together (for better or worse)
the celica struts etc are used for stronger stub axle, and better brake/shock options

Custom Gearbox crossmember is not required. AE71 gearbox mount will bolt to the standard gearbox crossmember. This then bolts to the chassis rails using the rear mounting holes on the chassis (if you have a look under your car you will see the holes I'm talking about). See this thread for making custom engine mounts.

thanks Brad thats just what I wanted to hear. I am pretty sure this is going to happen now I have just got on to a damaged ae70?71? so will be checking that out to see if its of any use as a donor car.
