Default Issues with 2002 zzt231 SX celica

    Hi guys,

My gf purchased a 02 celica a couple months ago and we've been slowly ironing out the bugs however one has me completely lost.

The key central locking dose not work either with the button or turning the key in the door nor does the interior light work.

Now the central locking and factory immobiliser is still working when the car is started as it all turns off and recognises the key just wont get you inside or open both doors together.

I've gone through all the switches and even had a couple auto electrician mates try plugging in the fault computer but nothing registers. Unfortunately with Toyotas inability to release information until the car is older we obviously cannot get far enough into the system. One thing that has been mentioned as a possible issue with the interior ecu that runs these features (not the motor ecu etc). could this be the case?

either way im a few short steps of tacking it to toyota but am not interested in paying stupid money for them to attempt to fix the issue.

The interior light is the main concern as it causes all sorts of issues while getting into the car at night.

the next big issue is the fuel gauge...it wont work. the temp and fuel gauge run on the same display and the temp is working fine so that rules out a faulty gauge. its only once the car creeps forward that the fuel light comes on and no fuel level is shown...even with a full tank of fuel.

    So guys who can help!

my ZZT231 did the same thing with the central locking, it never bothered me so i never figured it out. maybe just pull out the fuel pump assembly (its in the tank, unclip the bottom half of the rear seats, lift up the siliconed panel and there it is) and check the fuel level float is connected, at work(toyota) weve had a few of them just stop working and theyve had to be replaced with new floats? cant help much more then that, sorry i know this is probably not much help

sounds like the key needs to be recoded... or maybe it just needs the battery changed

If you were in Sydney, I have a spare float with all wiring from a 2ZZ fuel pump housing you could have.

first issue... Sounds like the door lock actuator motor isnt switching the other door.. I dunno how your having trouble opening the drivers side that doesnt sound right.. But as the drivers door is opened the actuator should switch open the opposite side actuator thru the bcm (body control module) cos as far as im aware newer toyota's use a bcm for everything not a little box for everything seperate like the old school

also.. Second issue is your fuel sendor unit.. Like stated above remove and have a fiddle or jus replace it

thats the sender, a quick poke around will bring up the entire fuel and electrical system

im not sure, but it look like here they have used a seperate receiver for the door locks (apparently wireless)

    great info guys, thanks!

should give me a few more things to cancel out.

with re: to the fuel float etc does anyone know the rough costs to buy the part new? also what is the best way to cleanly take off the fuel cover under the seat? heat up and pull?

lastly any ideas on the interior light? it seems to get power and can be turned on with the switch but the doors wont trigger it...

That is probably your issue with your door locks, if the door switches dont work the central locking module thinks the door is still open and wont lock the car correctly.

Just edge a flatblsde screwdriver under it and lever up, just push the. Rubber grommet the wires are in through first. Mate if u want, j photocopied the central locking troubleshooting section of the zzt231 electrical supplement, kl try upload it but it's pretty long, il mail it if you like, just pm me
