Default How to: tint your foglamps (JDM yellow)

Well im at home, sick and i thought i'd finally get some pics up and a bit of a "how to" (hehe) to tint your foglamps, headlight, taillights etc using this adhesive film (it comes in different colours) blue and black from memory.

I did this to my supra (which i sold over a year ago) because i really like the yellow jdm snow/fog lamp look

roll of film. light with surround removed

    Steps
    1. remove foglamps and metal surrounds.
    2. clean really well with soapy water or prepsol (wax grease remover)
    3. (the film has its own adhesive glue on one side)
    4. wet down the lamp and use a little squeegy to push the air bubbles out.
    5. use a heat gun or hairdryer to soften and stretch the film around the sharp corners of the lamp.
    6. trim off excess film.
    7. refit lamps and enjoy life

    Pics:
surround fitted. yet to trim off excess film in this pic

    before and after

    all done

lights on. crap pic though because they look very yellow at night.

let me know what you think,
    cheers

More like RS Yellow! But awesome none the less.
First time I've seen the film though, I would be interested to see how it holds up.

I would have used lense dye but I havnt seen that around in a while.

85Lux: Me too, I haven't seen lense die for ages. auto shops use to keep that stuff.

the film can be removed easy enough too. (for glass surfaces, dunno about plastics)

BTW its called LaminX, sold by http://www.tougetune.com/main.php . can also find it on ebay USA

looks much easier to get an even colour than the dye stuff

    and much easier to remove!

Will a heat gun help fix the wrinkly corners?

Yep, it would. i used a hairdryer (not as hot) and i think i redid that lamp in the pic because i wasnt happy with my first attempt.

But the film is quite thick (0.6mm according to the verniers) so it takes a bit of work and practice to get it nice around the edges.

Nothing wrong with white/clear fog lights, the whole "yellow lights penetrate fog better" thing is a bit of a furphy/myth.

Anyone care to post a link to the ebay auction for the stuff. Figure this could double as the headlight covers i need for CAMS licencing.
