remove the complete hub from the car and take it to a brake shop or something.
Ive done this before when i was unable to undo a hub nut.
Okay so I've been tearing my hair out with this one for a while. I've got a hub bolt that just won't budge. Here is the list of things I've tried:
- Soaking the jesus out of it with WD40
- My trusty uber bolt loosener, broken.
- Breaker bar to loosen, won't budge, bent breaker bar.
- Sidchrome 1/2" L-bar with 1.5m extension and me jumping up and down on it, broken (Sidchrome warranty anyone?)
- Hammer and cold chisel
- Heating up the nut
- Rattle gun
- Hammering the drive shaft itself (is already written off)
- Drilling the bolt, broke two cheapo drill bits
- Tightening it first then trying to loosen it
I'm at a loss here, if I can I'd like to salvage the bolt but if I have to cut the bastard off somehow I will. There is no access to the bolt with an angle grinder or die grinder. Is there perhaps a larger L-Bar someone can recommend? The local tool place wants $60 for Sidchrome 3/4" one, maybe that would cop a 1.5m extension with my standing on it?
It's not actually a Toyota, it's on one of my gen 1 Subaru Libertys if that helps.

...... butt scratcher?!
WD40 is a waste of time, get a real penetrant spray like Yeild. You get what you pay for.
3/4" drive electric impact gun and an appropriate socket.
Try someone like Coates Hire. I've hired 1 from them where I live (ages ago now) and they have heaps of balls. Probably not going to be cheep, tho.
Failing that, do you know a good boiler maker? They could gouge the nut off.

Try Loctite freeze and release, its bloody brilliant...

I use it at work all the time for exactly your problem. Helava lot cheaper than a new breaker bar and its handy stuff to have around anyways.
Or yeah as Witzl says take it to someone with a bigger gun.

Great stuff hey MWP! I use it quite a bit.
Ps url is fixed so you can look at the pretty pictures now![]()
Turning it the right way?
do what Witzl said.
we had to do this with one of Vito's hubs.
this plus a 2m pipe.Worked on lots of air-cooled VW rear axles.
The nut will not be as pretty as it once was but still usable.
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
Cheers guys, might try the Loctite, see if freezing the damn thing will do it.

Try heating around the bolt with a decent hot air gun and then apply "Wolfchester Ice Breaker"or Forch Black Magic.
This product rapidly freezes to -40C, this method will alow the penetrant to rapidly be absorbed by the material.
We get far better results from these products than any other, better prices too.
PM me if you need some.

if its able to be driven and the revs can be controlled well enough you can do similar to the crank bolt starter motor trick,
id sugest wearing padding tho and a helmet,
ive broken a 1/2" breaker bar on a hub bolt before, what rattle gun did you try?. the thing i finally managed to get it undone with was a snap on electric rattle gun, my air rattle gun wouldnt budge it.
burn the nut off with a gas axe? result wont be pretty but any fight between steel and acetylene+oxygen, the gas wins hands-down
Go to your local Caterpillar dealer and get there nut removal penetrating fluid. $60 a can but amazing stuff if you're not having a win. Diesel mixed with powered carbon (some call it dry lube if you want to buy some) is better than most the off the shelf products too ( yes I grew up on a farm)
