I think you could get away with putting a stock 1jz in the ute under 10k
Im sure it has been done before also.
Cant help with other q's.
Hey, I'm thinking about engine conversions for my deo and im pretty keen on the 1j's n 2j's. Just wondering if anyone has any comments or general information on how realistic this is. Budget wise i dont want to go over 10 grand. I know this will be a difficult task but i've seen these in Hiluxes so im reasonably confident it will fit in my engine bay. My main questions/worries are these:
- What in my bay will need to be moved/removed to accomodate the engine? (ive heard the exhaust comes out on the drivers side, as opposed to standard Rodeo setup)
- Will the new gearbox fit in my transmission tunnel, if not how much cutting will i need to do? (this is probably a "how long is a piece of string" type question haha)
- To have it engineered, Im pretty sure ill need to upgrade at least the front brakes. Does anyone have any information on brake conversions in commercial utes?
- Are there any glaringly obvious problems that you think I should know about before i attempt something like this?
and most of all:
-Do you think i'll be able to put a 1JZ or 2JZ into my Rodeo for under 10 grand, given that I will probably have myself and mates working on it a fair bit?
If anyone could do me up a ball park figure shopping list of everything you think i would need to spend money on for this, that would be awesome too, Im not gonna rush into anything, just fishing for ideas really.
Cheers.
cheers man any idea where i could get in contact with anyone whos done it before? links to buildups etc?
this would be similar to the hilux 1/2J conversions - I'd be looking at what they did in regards to cross members & (to a lesser degree) brakes.
Use a JA70 manual frontcut if you desire a manual. Sumps are interchangable on this model. ie pickup and sump bolts on to different models. Makes sense to buy a half cut as you get all ecu, emissions and nice things like ac and power steering and uni and yoke out of gearbox. For brakes try the hopper stoppers kits or 4wd model rodeos as they tend to be heavier.
hey mate thanks for the advice on brakes, Ill look into hoppers stoppers. Can anyone link me to anyone on this forum whos done one of these motors in a light commercial truck (lux, rodeo, mazda, courier, navara)? Also I do want an auto, so Id be looking at a chaser or soarer halfcut for the 1JZ or an aristo or 2JZ soarer if i wanted the big 3 litre right?
