Cruising can be quite low, and hot idle anything as low as 10psi can be considered ok.
So with the dollar so good at the moment I am going to buy an accusump from the states but I am not sure on which electronic valve to get.
It will be going on a 3sgte and from the toyota BGB anywhere from 36psi to 71psi at 3000rpm is considered normal. The electronic valves are available at opening pressure of
- 20-25psi
- 35-40psi
- 55-60psi
The 35-40 psi one seems to be on the money but that will mean that it will discharge the accusump when at idle as the minimum stock idle pressure is 4.2psi. Would going for the 20-25psi valve be a better idea as it would discharge less often. Obviously the lower the opening pressure the less time there is for the accusump to save your motor if the pickup is starved of oil so it sort of defeats the purpose of having one at all. My only real concern with a higher pressure valve is if the normal cruising pressures are not enough and the accusump discharges will there be enough room in the sump to handle the extra oil without getting frothed up by the crank.
At this stage I'm tossing up between a 1 (0.95L) or 2 quart (1.9L) accusump but will have to see what will fit into my engine bay
Looking at this thread I can see figures between 20 - 40 psi being thrown around and this thread gives a figure of 22psi at idle taken from the oil cooler sandwich plate mounting point.
What does everyone think?
Cruising can be quite low, and hot idle anything as low as 10psi can be considered ok.

Better sump design FTW.

I've seen many engines blow even with accusump.
The main prob is when the can is empty while track racing as it can happen depending on the track and how many G's your car pulls, what oil has to fill it up? the oil going to the bearings, therefore the eng misses out on oil. It may not get enough time to fill up after the corner then you come to the next corner.
Not many people in NZ run them as no one really found it made a big difference. If you are getting that much oil surge you should look more into baffling or even better Dry sump.
