weird im running 1g flywheel on my 3t with the stock 3t starter motor and is working fine? what series 1g flywheel are u running? ive got a series 1.

Hi,
I am using a 1G flywheel on my 2TG and had to space the T-series starter motor so it would engage & disengage the flywheel ring gear to properly. The spacer is just an 8mm thick M12 nut that fits over the M8 thread of the starter motor bolts. To complete this modification, I plan on installing a suitably sized O-ring to seal the starter motor to the bell-housing, but before that...
Will a 1G starter motor have the right throw to engage the 1G flywheel ring gear on the 2TG?
The dimension I am interested in on the starter motor is from the face that bolts to the flex plate to where the spur gear throws to when the solenoid is engaged. On a T-series starter motor this distance is 32mm - if a 1G starter is going to be suitable for my application, this distance should be 24-25mm. Surely someone has a starter motor they can make a quick measurement on to save me a trip to the wreckers
Also, does the 1G have a reduction type starter motor?
Cheers, JB.

Dan, I have no idea what series 1G because it's a custom billet flywheel - perhaps the ring gear was deliberately offset when they were manufactured if there is no difference between generations?? I'll post up pics tonight of the starter motor & flywheel - just at work ATM.
Cheers, Jess
There is no difference in the ring gear side of things for the 1G flywheels, only the clutch face diameter - 9in for Gen1&2 and 9.5in for Gen 3.
I am running a 3T-GTE flywheel on my 1G and have no issues with starter motor engagement. The 3T is the 9in clutch so the same as Gen1&2 1Gs.
If its custom, then maybe they got the ring gear measurement wrong.
JB 22,
As I am sure your realising there is NO difference in the ring gear sizes for the following:
2_TC
3-TC
2-TG
3T-GTE
1G-GTE
1G-GZE
and probably more. You either have the wrong flywheel or the wrong starter motor.

The starter motor is the same item as used on a 3T & had no engagement issues - obviously the flywheel was custom made to the wrong dimensions.
Big Zop, I'm curious about the 3T having a 9" clutch - My 1G flywheel has a 9" clutch bolted up to it & I had to mildly die-grind the two ribs on the inside of the T50 bell-housing in order for it to fit, and that's with the custom flywheel being 10-12mm closer to the engine block than a standard 3T flywheel. Perhaps the clutch pressure plate housing I have is much larger than a 3T item
Either way, Cheers for the info guys - it seems the custom flywheel was made with the ring gear offset 12mm. Who knows why, guess I'll have to live with it.
Cheers, Jess
I am using a W58 so no problems fitting inside the bellhousing.
And as previously mentioned, the diameter stated above is the diameter of the clutch face, pressure plate and friction surface on the flywheel but the outside diameter of the flywheel ring gear is the same for them to be interchangeable.
as big_zop said there is no difference
