    Default Boost controller advice needed

    Fellas,

Can anyone recomend an electronic boost controller for use in my AE86? The car went over the RTA last week and one of the things it failed on was the 'manual boost tee' boost controller. They said the boost controller has to be a 'set and lockable' type. So, Iam guessing electronic is just the way to go.

There seems to be a few out there, but honestly, i dont know much about them at all. I dont want to spends heaps of money, as its not something i have budgeted for right at the moment.

Someone on another forum said they have a 'Blitz SBC Spec-S' for sale. Brand new for $350. When I did a search on them, most people recomended the 'Spec-R' one. From what I can see, the only differance between the two is the Spec-R has 2 solinoids and the Spec-S only has one. I have no idea what that means..... What is the differance between one or two solinoids? Would the Spec-s be sufficient for my application (4AGTE - 14psi)

    This is it-

Any advice or recomendation would be much appreciated ....
Or, if you have a good spare one for sale....

    Thanks

electronic version is hardly set and locakable tho in fact it would be easier to adjust in cabin while driving than a manual one

2 solenoids makes it more likely to actually control the boost accurately.

    Hey JoJo.

I would check with the RTA if an electronic boost controller is still going to be acceptable as these are still adjustable. You could always just run wastegate boost with no controller to pass the RTA inspection and then fit a boost controller later.

The difference is the two solenoids between the spec R and spec S. The twin solenoids tends to have better boost control but from what you have said you are running, a Greddy Profec b spec 2 would be fine and are cheaper then the Blitz items.

If it was me, i would just run wastegate boost to get it passed and then fit a boost controller hidden away somewhere when you need to run the extra boost.

    Cheers, Brendan.

True that. the old turbo touring cars had to have the waste gate adjustment under the bonnet so they couldn't just wind up the boost from inside the cabin. it didn't stop them though lol

Thanks for the advice there. If I was to just run wastegate boost then (no controller), what pressure would that be running?

    Thanks,
    JoJo

It would just be what ever the standard spring is rated to on the turbo. its off a silvia yeah?

Probably around the 7psi mark at a guess
