    Default 3tgte oil pressure

After some info on 3tgte oil pressure. What oil pressure should they run at and does anyone have aftermarket guage on there 3tgte, what pressure does that read. My 3tgte has autometer guage but seems to read a bit high was wondering if that is normal for the 3tgte. Thanks for any info.

3TGTEs always have a tendancy to run high oil pressure ive heard of serveral that do, some people have even used na 3T oil pumps to over come it, make sure u use a small oil filter.

Firstly, your post is a little ambiguous. For a solid answer could you tell us a few things.
    1. What is the pressure reading (as asked above)?
    2. What oil you are running along with its hot and cold viscosities?
    3. How recently was the oil and filter changed?
    4. What rpm is this pressure reading at?

    40- 50 psi at idle
and up from there is what my 1g runs
when its hot its a fair whack less tho, esp.at idle
were your readings up to temp or cold?

    The reading will change depending on alot of variables;
    - Oil visc (Thinker oils can give you higher readings)
    - where you took your measurement from (Where is the sensor located)
    - what is too high, during idle or during hard driving?

Thanks for your responses guys. To answer some questions i have autometer guage, the sensor running from original oil pressure switch location. I am using penrite 20/50 oil and running toyota oil filter small type. The pressure in the morning at idle is 80psi when i rev it the guage goes well over 100psi the pressure does drop a bit when hot down to 25psi at idle but still goes to 100psi when i rev it. I blew a oil cooler line off the other day and was concerned that it was because of to hi oil pressure but if the pressure is normal for toyota engines i wont worry about it. Thanks again for all your help.

with 20/50 oil which is quite thick i woudlnt be worried about that.
sounds a tad high, but too much is better than not enough
does it burn any oil? if it doesnt maybe try a thinner oil?

It's not uncommon on the 3T-GTE, there was a discussion about it on www.toyota3tc.com with a guy who kept blowing oil filters. Might be worth searching through.

I would probably put a little diesel into the oil and run it then change it after about 500-1000km's, and then fill with new oil with a little bit of diesel again. It may also be a good idea as mentioned above to run a thinner oil maybe 15-40. I would also be checking the lines running from the oil pump and give them a clean along with the oil cooler. The diesel should help clean out any gunk built up in the engine and should help flow. All the best.

If your worried about the oil filter & leads, i'd get braided lines for the cooler & run a K&N oil filter. That way the pressure will not afftect those items.
Pressure sounds about right on the Turbo, that's why they have decompressed engines, the boost will jump the compression and cause detonation on high compression engine that run too much boost.
    What boost are you running?
Also i wouldn't run a thinner oil as your turbos generally need a decent thickness otherwise they will burn the oil.

digging up old post here but meh
yer i had same prob. factory te71 oil pressure gauge reading 8 on startup with 3tgte.
if i revd it within a minute of starting it would pop the oil filter. silly me didnt do an oil change for 12months and ol was pretty black.. one day i boost up the road and theres a poomf and cloud of oil behind me.. argg
once oil warmed a little the oil pressure dropped to normal. usually read around 6 when revving or 2 at idle... not sure what measurement that would be tho.
i burst a repco oil filter to start with after that i pulled the engine sump off to inspect oil pump and relief valve.. the pump was a bit scored but couldn't find much else wrong. changed to fram oil filter which didnt last long before spittin out the seal.. after spitting em a few times i discovered the fram filter had expanded and skewed so the seal didnt have a flush seating area. changed to a genuine toyota (nippon denso) oil filter which didnt blow but i replaced the engine not long after.
i even stripped the oil cooler adapter but that was clean.
i suspect either the relief valve is jamming or theres a blockage somewhere in the oil system. ive met a few people with similar problems. i dont see why you should replace the hi flowing 3tgte oil pump for a lesser pump just because your over pressurizing. fix the problem ffs

ALWAYS MAINTAIN YOUR OIL! if you pull cam cover off and find the oil is gunked up or caked on the valve train your just asking for trouble. if you were to run diesel oil when your engine is in this condition then your asking for trouble too.. diesel oil has more detergents and likely to dislodge the gunk and clog shiz up if theres too much crap in the engine
my first suggestion is use a thinner oil ie 15-40 grade. no point in using lower viscosity synthetic as it'll piss straight out the ct20. i run 15-40 castrol GTX no problems.
    if no success
inspect the oil relief valve on the oil pump and make sure it moves freely
