Get a 4AGE Air Condensor, and use a 4AGE alternator, they are very simple to hook up to 4AC wiring, splice back all the stuff on the alternator, you will be left with a phew wires, and its all pretty much colour coded, again, its all very simple. If you have any problems there is always helpful guys on here.

Matt-AE86 - if i can actually track them down, i'll definatly use them,
but it's not a good time of year to be chasing parts tho - might have to wait until after xmas/new years.

I may just buy a reco alternator if i can't find one second hand, the air-con is still a sticking point. I'd prefer not to have to adapt fittings and lines to a new unit.

If i can get an alternator with the 4ac type pulley but rated the same as the 4age ( 50amp i believe ) i'll stick to the 4ac compressor and crank pulley - multirib belts be damed.

Dom-KE55 - I've been told the 4age alt is rated at 50 amp, not sure what the 4ac is rated at, but its probably significantly less being off a humble carb motor.
This is the only thing i could imagine being different between the two (besides pulleys ).

P.S. The only reason i'm asking these questions is that the donor motor i bought was missing AFM, alternator and compressor and i'm having trouble getting hold of the nessesary bits, so i may need to improvise.

    Hey all,

sorry to revive a dead thread, but I need to know whether or not the 4age altenator (bosch?) has an internal or external voltage regulator?

Need to figure out which wire has to go where in order to get charge (main connection to battery + terminal already in place)

4AGE alternator has an internal regulator.
I'm sure there's a link to the factory 4AGE manual around here somewhere, i'll post up a link when i find it.

    Edit: Here's the charging system

    Here's the whole shebang

this is more just out of curiosity but has anyone gotten a full aircon system working on the 20v?
    would there be enough room?

providing that you dont have an alternator mounted on the exhaust side it should fit easy as it sits nice and low. Never heard of it being done
