if uve got an intercooler, then u shudnt have to worry to much about a cold air intake. otherwise, u could box off ur pod filter and run sum pvc pipe from under the box to behind the front bar...

ive got a top-mount intercooler which is fine but the problem is that when the battery goes in the intake pipe comes down straight into where the battery sits and the airbox has to be legal so i can get it engineered

Battery in the boot for more room then run the filet closer to the front, box it in so its legal, then cut a hold in the bottom of the battery tray and run a tube down. There is a good post about relocating a battery that will help you out if you travel this route

Why not? Every bit of cooling of the air is going to help!

Its pretty easy and engineers won't have any probs as long as its done right. It needs to be enclosed in a battery box which you can buy at supercheap auto, and the box needs to be mounted solidly and the battery also needs to be mounted solidly. I'm not too sure but i think the boot also needs to be ventilated. But most boots are ventilated anyways.

Battery in boot, then get a SX rolla or GZE map airbox setup and mount it in the same place. then you can make the cold air entry into the airbox bigger and the inner guard hole bigger and you will get alot more free flowing cold air and be legal.

Have a look in members rides for an engine bay shot of a corolla. You will notice from front to back it goes:
    - Pass side headlight
    - Battery
    - Airbox

And all 3 items are hard against the inner guard so check pics for full understanding
