Ive posted this on 3 forums and havent had a single person rep for wolf, i understand that there are a lot more adaptronic users out there but not having a single wolf rep sort of sells me on adaptronic...

Well here is one I am running the v500 on my 3sgte and it has been flawlwess so far.

Software is also very good, although I does have a few bugs in the datalogging playback, but nothing serious. It is easier to look at the data in excel anyway.

There has been a lot of talk about some quality issues recently for the adaptronic. It is in another thread on here somewhere.

Biggest thing is to tlak to your tunner. No point asking them to tune an ECU they are not familiar with.

See, I debate this statement. I understand the basics of tuning an ECU, I just don't have any experience. I'm able to use the Adaptronic software to get the AFR's where I want them etc from a cursory glance at the software. Are you saying that someone with much more experience in tuning cars couldn't do the same?

True, but there is a lot more to ECUs than just the afrs. The inputs/outputs and all the cold start enrichments. I'm not saying that any tunner cannot tune any ECU. More that you are more likely to get a better result if they are tunning an ecu that they are familiar with.

Also hopefully less dyno time and less cost to you.

    Look at Vipec's too.
They seem to be very powerful ECUs.

I agree with you somewhat there, the peripheral functions on some ECU's are pretty complicated. The Adaptronic has a great manual though and the software is very intuitive.

Unfortunately that is another area where the Wolf has fallen down for the home user. There is no manual to understand the functions. However I think it you are a official dealer they support them much more. The software does have some hints and tips on how to set it up but there is still alot of assumed knowledge.

I get the impression Adaptronic has been setup more for the home installation and tune with the info they provide.

    The V44's aren't too bad at ~$1500.
They really do have a lot of awesome features though.
Im going to try to get enough $$s together for a V88 for my 5S build.

This is a really good point.
The adaptronic seems to be a unit that is much easier for you to get your engine started and running, and get a basic tune down... so that when you take it to your tuner it will cost you a lot less in dyno time.

Me personally - i'll be trailering my car to a tuner. The engine is a fresh rebuild so i dont want to fuck it.

The v500 is great, but not in that price range. I wouldn't bother with a 3d

Wolf sound good according to there propaganda ,
they say they can do a lot of things but don't seem to do anything well in practice, V500 included.
software is not that good to use.
vipec in my experience are not that great either.

the new haltec ecu's are quite good , autronic also very good but not so novice friendly.

The vipec's are awesome in my experience, V44 is comparible to an E420C in terms of aux inputs/outputs but it has 4 ignition and 4 injector drives, also comes with on-board map sensor and an intake air temp sensor and coolant temp sensor in the box which are optional with an E420C. The user interface, logging etc is in another league compared to the Adap, as is the physical case/loom/plugs.

I've got a turbo 1zzfe running on a V44 at the moment, my daily driver subaru on another v44 and my vvti 2J MX83 on a V88. All run flawlessly, they work really well with reluctor trigger setups, toyota's in particular and the VVTi control is really good. All mine start, idle and drive like they're a factory ECU. I'll have another couple running a 2zzge and an ST215 3sgte in the next few months.

If $1500's too expensive then you could also look at a Link G4 Atom, its like a cut down Vipec V44, and should be around the $1100-1200 mark locally. Almost identical user interface to the vipec, but the links dont have the mixture map in the interface which makes tuning the fuel map a lot quicker.

Ultimately you should speak to your tuner and take advise if you're not going to do any of it yourself.
