Default 1JZ Auto control with Aftermarket ECU

    G'day all,

Is it possible to run a 1JZ Auto box without a factory computer? I have heard of people using some sort of controller from the 7M boxes, can anyone shed any light on this?

The reason i ask is, i dont have the factory harness or ECU and i would like to avoid having to install it, then piggyback the Microtech, just to run the auto.

Its going into an E36 BMW Coupe, and ive considered having the full factory loom wired in and using a SAFC or something, but the car will be running a reasonable sized single and fuel system, so aftermarket ecu is certainly the preferred choice.

    Cheers

    -Dan

depends on your budget i spose, but the AEM Wolf V500 is quite capable of full auto transmission control, they have a plug in harness for the 2jzgte JZA80 http://wolfems.cart.net.au/details/2081251.html

Unsure whether that would work on ure engine, dont know my jz's much at all...

Thanks for the reply mate. I know that some ECU's will control the auto (at a price of course), but im looking more at other possible options like:

-Can i do a basic wire up of the factory ECU just to control the Auto, with the aftermarket ECU to control the engine stuff?

-Can parts of the 7M equivalent box be used to look after the auto stuff?

-Is a 7M version of the A340 the way to go?

-Guys get the box's manualised, will this avoid having to use the factory ecu?

Please share with me your knowledges!!!

buy or make yourself a shift box... this will avoid having to need the stock ecu but you will always have to change gears manually down to 1st at every stop otherwise you will end up cooking gearboxes etc...

also make sure you still hookup the kickdown cable if you manualise it... as it controls the line pressure to the gearbox and without it you will blow up the box

I recon the wording of my original post probably threw you off, in retrospect.

So after looking into it, there are a few of these things around, will probably end up with an MV Auto's one.

After seeing 1JZRolla's Youtube vids, i think a manualised auto will kick arse!

there is a thread on here somewhere about how to make a shift box for around $10 i think... at the very least significantly less than an MV autos one... but the mv one might be easier if money isnt an issue and your not overly confident with wiring

Hmm, will keep looking for that thread. Im not 100% useless with wiring (around 92%), but for this car i really want everything done spot-on.... I mean performing wiring is one thing, but troubleshooting is another.... Would rather spend the money then deal with the headache.

Will try and find this thread and see what an auto eleccy thinks about it, as im going to get the rest of the hard wiring done by someone more competent than me! (at least <50% useless)

    Cheers

I may have a suprastick v2 for sale shortly
If your running a z30 soarer box with a kickdown cable it will work.
You can also run tiptronic style paddles to shift gear and can program the shift points.
