Default Performance Clutch for 4agte AE82

I've got a crank on the way for my 4agte, so once the bottom end is assembled and I drop
the head on I can mate it to the gze box and run it in N/A for a thousand kay. So before I get the bottom end back I need to have the clutch ready. Question is which brand, type and size?? Is there any advantage in running the larger diameter flywheels? It seems from the eXtreme catalogue that the really beefy clutches are available in the 200mm flywheel size I assume this is as it is the sprinkler flywheel size.

Would like this one but cant justify the price lol http://www.tweakit.net/shop/product_...oducts_id=6092

This is what im thinking I will run, http://www.tweakit.net/shop/product_...oducts_id=4663

I think with 200kw driveability will come down to judicial use of the right foot more so than an in or out clutch feel.

Anyone's voices on experience with brands, clutch types etc greatly appreciated, cheers guys

Im doing just this (running in NA) on my recently rebuilt 4agze block.

You pretty much have to stay with the factory GZE flywheel if your using the E series gearbox. Only other option will be an aftermarket jobbie. Besides, a balanced gze flywheel/clutch/pressure plate assembly will handle 200kW from what i have seen in the past on other peoples vehicles.

Excedy make a cushioned 3 puck ceramic sports tuff clutch for the gze flywheel, i dont have the part number at hand but if your interested i can find my box offcut in the shed with the number on it. Im using this exact clutch in my daily and even though its a 3 puck clutch think i can man up and not complain about a heavy pedal or limited to no slip allowed with the clutch.

I had an eXtreme HD organic cushioned disk style clutch on my first gze'd car, it copped allot of abuse and even though i thought it was gonna be toasted when i pulled it out it had pretty much next to no damage at all, just a small amount of wear.

thats all i can really help with mate, best of luck.

try and get your hands on a 225mm 4agze flywheel.... and then you have more clutch options available that wont slip like a poo down a toilet bowl.

So E series gearboxes require the larger clutch and pressure plate of the

225mm fly then? I will pull my finger out and vernier the flywheels I have

PCD'S to determine what flywheels I actually have and go from there.

Gze fly is easy to identify, it has steps machined into it where the pressure plate bolts to, the rest are all pretty much flat apart from the locater studs

if you want to use a standard GE 200 or 215mm flywheel then you need a custom clutch disc with the larger E/W series spline.

I'd personally go for the 230mm disc GZE flywheel from the series 2 AE92 GZE or AE101 GZE. Gives you more surface area for the disc to work with. The stock ASIN cover can be modified to develop more clamp force than the exedy covers too.

yep for sure the gze fly, after screwing around with 2 200mm aftermarket clutches that both slipped quickly, i went to the 230mm fly and a clutch built by jim berry i think. no dramas since.

I agree with JP - go for the 230mm GZE flywheel if you can.
More diameter = more surface area for the clutch disc to grab onto = less slip = less p00 = more skids
    ...... butt scratcher?!
