now i've heard from a previous thread that it's a 4.3?????
what if any diff code has a 4.55 in the A series?? or can a G series be substituted (also read on the forums)
Hi,
a mate of mine has an 01 2.7L 4x4 hilux, the typical 33's, lift, drop shackles etc etc...
the rear lacks an lsd (i was under the impression that pretty much all the later model 4wd luxes had rear lsd's?)
and the ONLY diff code on the plate is an A05B, which from what i can decode as 3.15 open (?)..
he plans up upping to 35's and wants to get more like 4.3 or 4.55 diffs.. apparantly the deisel hilux ratio's are the pick of the litter??
anyone shed some light?

Hilux A05B is a 4.3 ratio lsd G series
Front is a F series
Jealousy is a curse
depends on what it is out of
Jealousy is a curse
ill have a 4.5 crown and pinion avail very soon .. pulling it from my hiace to put in a 4.1
any G series crown and pinion will work . lsd are plentiful on ebay . ratios 4.3 - 4.8 are most common for 4wd's
so the A05B combination is decoded as
G282 Rear? (as it is definitly not LSD... or it is extreamly knackered if it is..)
F282 Front?
or am i reading it wrong? 4.300 is '28' and the 2 meaning 2 pinion open centre..
he can get a 4.55 for the front with a locker of sorts.... for the rear i would need to hunt down a G253?? which is a LSD 4.556 according to the sheets..
anyone know if G253's are out of any particular make/model surf/hilux???
g series rear is 8"
f series front is 7.5 inch
i think
4.5 lsd is pretty rare so ive been told , best to find a 4.5 and buy a lsd seprately and merge the 2
oh this link might help

mate if you plan on running 35's than you will need to go 4.88's if you want to keep your speedo correct and have any driveability off road......the down side is 35's drain alot of power from the 3rz so on the highway 5th gear is pretty useless. I am pretty sure it will have 4.33 gears and should be factory lsd easiest way to tell is to look at the back of the diff housing and just right of the centre will be a lsd sticker going up and down, you can also go a 4.56 ratio and 5.29. The pick of the ratio's is 4.56 they are the strongest gear ratio out of the lot of them but are the hardest to find.
also be carefull there are 2 different 4.88 gearsets the 22r model hilux's are a special centre just to this model they are the only ratio that has its own housing and the gears arent interchangable if you want to go 4.88's i would suggest getting some out of a v6 or get some new nitro gears off one of the many 4wd shops in Australia.
hope that helps if you need any other info ill try to help.
cheers for the info.. he is really trying to avoid buying gearsets and having a diff shop lapp them in etc..
although i have told him it's prolly the easiest way to do it.. and that way he can be sure to get the ratio he wants..
* side question - the rear is opening up like Jenifer Anniston to a single male actor.. hence why we are assuming it's an open.. but he's put just ordinary toyota 90w diff oil in the back... i'm unsure what type of lsd they run stock, (torsen etc) are they affected by thicker/thinner LSD oil with additives etc.. assuming limslip 140 would help??
