Default 7MGTE crank angle sensor into 5mge head

    Hey there,

just wondering if the 7mgte crank angle sensor will go into 5mge head?

i understand the heads are different so my questoins are.
is its as simple as bolting it in?
    swapping gears?
    or shortening the shaft?

or will i have to go another way about setting such a sensor up?

    cheers tom

can't answer the question directly, but fwiw: later model 5MGE dizzi should have (will go and double-check with the TSRM) a 6 or 24 tooth wheel and VR sensor - ideal for most ECUs

edit: should have a 24-tooth and a 2 tooth wheel. So you could use it run sequential fuel and spark.

early engines have mechanical/vacuum advance (like a 5me), later model's manage the spark timing with the ECU.

But best to pop the lid and have a look inside as I'm reading info off a US site.

edit 2: should look something like this:

(pinched from a Megasquirt thread on celicasupra.com)

the above pic is probably not how i'd go about it (they've used the main wheel only and reduced it to a 6 tooth wheel - smashing off teeth - giving them 1 trigger event per spark event).

Most ECU's can decode a pattern and from that setup, you would:
    - leave all the teeth intact (calling it a 12-tooth crank wheel as you'd get 50% rotation for each crank rotation)
    - change the 2-tooth wheel to a single tooth (home signal)
    - position dizzi to suit
    - chop the top off to make it CAS
    - build a dual VR circuit (from this guy: http://jbperf.com/ - gives you a nice 5V out from each sensor)
    - install coil packs as required.
