Hey guys, the water pump in my Toyota Corona ST190 is leaking out of the weeper hole.
So time for a new water pump i thought. Too big a job for me to do myself, so i rang around and everyone said they expect it to be about $230 for Water pump, labour, and coolant. I thought that was fair enough, and aksed a guy to book it in. He said 'i have to call toyota to confirm the price, as ur car is an import'
Rings me back, $520, the water pump is very expensive.
Rang up a few more places, same thing happened everywhere.
Does anyone know if there is an equivalent water pump I can use? Alot of toyota parts are interchangeable, so i'm sure there is at least another toyota with the same pump. If there is, it would be very easy to just get that one at a much cheaper rate and save myself $300
anyone know?

Ok,
Try calling your friendly toyota dealer. If you get no joy there consider getting something like a davies craig electric water pump.

I just rang up toyota, and they've said $150 for the pump with front and back housing.
Rang up the mechanic, and he said the price he used was $175, so not the biggest difference.
That means he's charging $325 or there abouts for labour? Does that seem excessive? If that is about right i'll give it the go ahead right now, but if it's excessive i'll start ringing around again..
I've changed water pumps in <30mins before.
That doesnt mean your particular one isnt extremely difficult, but mine was reasonably difficult being that it was driven off the timing belt on a FWD.
Depends,
Do you need to remove the timing belt in order to change the water pump? What are they charging you for coolant?
I would ask them for a breakdown of charges.
Get a few quotes from a few places.
If they do have to remove the timing belt I would get them to put a new one on at the same time. Itll cost you an extra $50 or so but will be good for an additional 60000+ km.

yeh timing belt needs to be removed. Including coolant as well. Don't have the breakdwon, and it's friday arvo now, but can find out later i guess.
I'm thinking about 3 or 4 hours labour - 35 an hour? so 140 for labour
$150+140= 290.... which is fine i guess, why 500?!
oh and yes, i'll get timing belt and oil seals done at same time, if price for waterpump is around 300. If i'm looking at 500, then i can't affrord it...timing belt was done about 25,000 km's ago.... good for 100,000 so yeh
iy you ring your local toyota dealer and ask for a quote to replace timing belt on sv21 camry and water pump they have a special deal on timing belt and only a small extra price labour on the water pump st190 takes approx same time to replace as sv21
Mechanics usually charge more like $60 an hour.Originally Posted by deeps

If the pump costs $150, That means he's quoting over 5 hours to do the job![]()
Or the genuine part is going to cost a shed load more than $150, have you got a price on an aftermarket (non-genuine) pump?
I've used the powermax water pumps on my previous cars, they are quite good quality and cost about half of the genuine price depending on application.
Good. Fast. Cheap.
Pick 2.
it's an old thread guys, got it fixed, but i can't remember how much i paid!
was around 350 i believe.
4sfe uses the same pump as 3sfe genuine $175.00 retail trade $125.00 if i am correct it comes complete with back housing and o/rings ready to install not like most aftermarket pumps minus the rear housing
