Default TA 22 5 spd Box

I have a noisy 5 spd box and want to replace the bearings Has anyone done this and how hard is it? I gather a 2nd hand manual is hard to come by.

Its not too difficult if you know what you're doing. Having said that this is the type of job you should be at a trades level.

You're better off buying a second hand unit, shouldn't be hard to find. The stock T50 is the same as used in T18's as well. Or you could upgrade to a W55 or W57 if you want something stronger and if you're happy to make some minor mods to brackets etc.

    Cheers,
    Simon

So the 5 speed box out of a T18 will slot straight on to my bell housing and no change needed at the tail shaft.

I will have a look in the classified see what I can find.

I have a offer of help form my mechanic if I get into trouble with the bearings he will let me use his press as well.

series 2 T18 boxes had the 22 spline output shaft which is different to the TA22 and series 1 T18 boxes which have the 20 spline output shaft.

Yes mate they are T50 boxes, and you will not have to change bellhousings.

    cheers Chuck.

I'm pretty sure (about 80%) that t18s have a different shifter position then boxes for ta22s. As for rebuilding the box I did this about 2 years ago whilst i was working for CBC bearings and I found new bearings quite hard to get. New syncro rings are easy but the syncro hubs are also hard to get. But if you decide to go the rebuild PM me because i'm pretty sure i have the bearing info hidden away somewhere.

I suspect that is a pretty good price but without more information hard to say... standard spec clutch? heavy duty clutch?

I have a Celica (TA22) manual but has anyone found a parts list with parts numbers on the web. Would like to chase up what seals and bearing would be needed among other things.
